Demi
I woke up and instantly smiled when I felt the extra weight on my ring finger. I sat up, covering my naked body with the white sheet. The only thing missing, coincidentally, was Nicko. I stood up and pulled on his dress shirt, which hung past my thighs, and buttoned the middle two buttons. Then I made my way onto the balcony, where Nicko stood, looking like a male model in just his black boxer-briefs. I wrapped my arms around his waist and felt him jump a bit.
"Did I scare you?" I giggled.
"Kind of." His voice was flat, and empty.
"Baby?" My brows lifted and I looked up at his face. "What's wrong?"
He looked away from me. "I thought we were done with this Wilmer shit."
"Wilmer? What the hell does he have to do with anything?!"
"Apparently he has everything to do with this." Nicko was so mad his hands were shaking. "Apparently, you two have been sleeping together every since you were photographed together, as he pointed out on his twitter today."
I shook my head. "I haven't seen Wilmer since you attacked him that day on the elevator."
"So you're still taking his side for that." He chuckled sarcastically and turned around, walking into the bedroom. "I'm done with this shit Demi. I can't be with someone who goes back to psychotic ex-boyfriends."
"So you're going to believe the psychotic ex-boyfriend over the mother of your child? Over your fiancé?"
"You're not my fiancé anymore."
I sighed heavily and sat on the bed. "Are we really having our first fight as an engaged couple the morning after you proposed?"
"I guess so!" His voice rose in decibels. "I don't know what to believe anymore Demi! You were together in that coffee shop and you fucking kissed him back! You moaned for christ's sake. How do I know you didn't go back for more?" Nicko shook his head and looked away. "How do I know that I'm going to be enough for you for the rest of your life?"
His voice cracked at the last sentence and I stood up, ignoring it when he stood a step back, following until his back hit the wall and we stood chest-to-chest. "Will you please listen to me?" I whispered. "I love you Nicko. I love you more than anyone in the world. I am going to marry you, and spend the rest of my life with you. Please, don't think anything Wilmer says is true. He's obviously upset with the news about the engagement, but I didn't even think of him last night. All I thought about was you, and how excited I am to spend my life with you. You are always going to be enough. You are always going to be enough, even when you're old and wrinkly I'll still want you, and only you."
He looked down at me, his blue eyes staring into mine with an intensity that made my breath catch. "Demi if I see him again I won't be able to control myself."
I bit my lip. "Will you even try?"
"I don't think you understand." Suddenly, I was lying on my back on the bed, Nicko hovering over me, his lips brushing mine as he spoke. "Everything I hold back on a daily basis comes crashing down the second I see him Demi. Every inch of me wants to rip him to pieces, and I can't control it. If I see him again, he will bleed. If I see him again, he'll be going to the hospital because I won't stop until someone physically pulls me off of him. I don't care if I kill him, or if I go to jail. He hurt you. He didn't just break your heart. He physically hurt you Demi. I don't understand how you forgive him for something like that but it's just another reason you're a better person than me, because there's no way in hell I will ever forgive that bastard." He glanced at me mouth and crushed his lips to mine. I kissed back, half-desire, half-fearful. "You're mine." Nicko growled. "I don't care that he got to have you first, you're fucking mine. Okay?"
I swallowed hard and nodded, my eyes still wide. "Okay."
He leaned his forehead against mine. "I can't lose you Demi. I will go insane." His head moved to the crook of my neck and I relaxed, holding his head and running my fingers through his dark locks.
"I'm not going anywhere Nicko."
"I'm sorry I'm being so possessive." He murmured. "I'm sorry I'm being difficult, and that you're just saying this because you're afraid. I just..." He sighed. "I love you."
"I love you too Nik." I whispered. "It's okay, I get it."
He sighed and rolled onto his back, then sat up, his feet handing off of the side of the bed as he hunched over, rubbing his face. I sat up too, crossing my legs and staying a safe distance away. Nicko didn't say anything for a long time. Finally the silence was too much and I voiced the question terrorizing my thoughts.
"You haven't changed your mind have you?"
"Of course not." Came his muffled reply.
"Then let's do it the day after tomorrow, when we get home." I said. "I don't need a white wedding, Nicko, I just want you. We can do it in the courthouse and have your mom and Max as witnesses."
He sighed heavily and looked up at the ceiling. "That's not going to work."
"Why not? It's fine Nicko, I don't need the whole white-wedding. I just want to be married already"
Nicko swallowed hard, putting his arm over his face and I felt tendrils of dread weave through my body, a slow ache beginning in my stomach.
"I don't want you to freak out, okay?"
Already my heartbeat was speeding up. "I'll try."
"Please don't yell either, just let me explain."
I pulled my legs into my chest and closed my eyes. "I'll try."
"I can't get married... until I get divorced."
