CHAPTER 34- Sorry
Nicko's POV
Once Demi hung up I let out a yell of frustration and launched my phone across the room into the wall.
Her words echoed in my head. Monster, you looked just like your father. I thought she would never say those things to me, no matter how much I fucked up, but I was wrong.
Of course, just because I was dreading having to face Demi on Saturday, it came quickly. Before I knew it I was anxiously pacing in front of the door and jumping at every sound. Finally, a familiar black Mercedes pulled in, and Demi got out, carrying Mia up to the door. I opened it a few seconds after she knocked and immediately she took a step back, staring at me in surprise. Quickly, she blinked and handed Mia to me. I took the baby and held her close to my chest, nuzzling her with my nose.
"Well call me if you need anything." Demi said, and went to walk out but I grabbed her hand.
"Wait-"
"Nicko I meant what I said." She interrupted in an annoyed tone.
"I know, I just don't want you to leave yet in case Mia isn't comfortable with you gone."
Demi hesitated, and I refrained from jumping into the air when she nodded her head and stepped further inside. I set Mia gently on the couch and played with her fingers as Demi sat across from us. After a few minutes of playing with her I looked up to see Demi with tears in her eyes. Quickly, she stood up.
"I'm gonna uhm... I'm gonna put her bottles in the fridge." I sighed as she ran into the kitchen and put Mia into her bouncer, then walked after her.
Demi was standing with her back to me and head bowed facing the counter. Her small frame trembled and I knew she was crying.
"Demi."
She whirled around and wiped her eyes, "I'm fine."
I shook my head and walked towards her, not hesitating as I pulled her into my arms. She was stiff for a few seconds, then relaxed and gripped my shoulders, sobbing into my t-shirt. I was hating myself in that moment, knowing that I was the reason for her tears. Demi pulled away and I looked down at her, time stood still as I slowly leaned down and captured her lips with mine, willing her to just forgive me, to come back to me. Demi kissed back for a few seconds, but I knew it was out of desperation, and then pulled away abruptly, handing me the bottles and grabbing her purse, shouting that she'll see me at seven over her shoulder as she ran out of the house.
~*Demi's POV*~
I sat in my car in my driveway for about an hour just crying, letting out all of the pain and frustration until I was left feeling nothing but more pain. A knock on my window made me look up with a yelp, my mom stood there with a sad expression.
"I'm fine." I assured as I got out of the car, and she shook her head, pulling me into a hug.
"No it's not, but it's okay. You don't have to be the strong one all the time baby."
I sighed, "He looked like shit mom. His eyes were bloodshot, he looked like he hadn't slept at all since that night."
My mom nodded, "I'm not surprised at all. I've seen you two together. He looked at you like you were the sun, his one source of light. You moved, he moved, always ready to protect you and now he has to balance the fact that he needs to protect you from himself."
I shook my head, "I said terrible things to him."
My mom nodded, "And he to you, but it takes time for these things to heal Dems."
I sighed, "I don't want to go back with him mom. I'm just so tired of the emotionally draining shit he did. I want to move on, but I don't think I'll ever find anyone else who made me feel the same way he does."
"Does?" My mom questioned, "What happened at the house Demi?"
I bowed my head, "He kissed me."
"And?"
I shrugged, "It felt like everything was back to normal, and all the shit around us faded away and it felt right. Then reality came back and I ran away."
My mom inhaled, "I know you'll make the right decision Demi."
I furrowed my brow, "What do you mean? What do you think the right decision is?"
She shook her head, "I'm not saying anything. It's your decision, I'm not the one who has to live with it."
~*~
Nicko's POVI smiled widely as Mia let out a giggle, her nose wrinkling just like Demi's does when she laughs.
"You look just like your momma did you know that?" I cooed, brushing our noses together, "You've got her smile and her cute little nose, and with the amount of screaming you do, you've got her lungs too. One day you're gonna be big and strong like her. Mommy's really mad at me right now, but one day I'll show her how sorry I am. I promise."
There was a knock on the door, and I looked at the clock, the time had literally flown by and it was seven o'clock. With a sigh I cradled Mia to my chest and opened the door. To my surprise and disappointment, it was not Demi who stood there, but Dianna.
"Hey." I greeted with an awkward smile, which Dianna returned.
"Hey there. You look like shit."
I chuckled, "Well I've seen better days."
Dianna sighed, "She has too."
I felt a lump in my throat grow, "Can I ask you something?" She nodded, and I got the sense she knew exactly what my question would be. "Is there a chance? Do you think she'll ever come back to me?"
Dianna sighed, "Honestly, it's up to her. Demi isn't a very predictable person. But... Yes, she's in love with you Nicko and I think a part of her always will be. You just need to find that part of her. She's hurt by all of the things you've said, and you reminded her of Patrick. She's very touchy about that sort of stuff. She may move on to other guys but it'll always be you. I can see it in her eyes."
I nodded, "Just... tell her i'm sorry."
Dianna nodded, "I will."
