CHAPTER 27- Promise
Demi's POV
Nicko was gone when I woke up, he was training hard for a movie gig that he played a mma fighter in. We'd gotten past the night before and just cuddled up on the couch, him becoming the loving and affectionate Nicko I'd fallen in love with. It worried me how much he'd broken down at the mere whim that I would be leaving him, although it was comforting knowing that I would feel the same way. After getting ready for my day full of business meetings and studio time, I walked to the car and my phone beeped with a text
Nicko(: - Hey beautiful, good morning! Thought I saw something in the backseat of your car as I was leaving, didn't get a chance to check it out though :)
I rolled my eyes and approached my car, Nicko wouldn't of let me near my car if he thought he saw something in it. I opened the door and gasped, laying on the backseat was a huge bouquet of roses and a Michael Kors gift bag. I picked up the flowers and smelled them with a huge smile on my face then put them down and pulled out my phone.
To: Nicko(: I fucking love youuuu
@ddlovato; best. boyfriend. EVER.
www.pic.twitter.com/skdjHHgjdndI opened the gift bag to see a small simple clutch that I'd spent just the right amount of eye contact on for Nicko to notice it and knew it was only a matter of time before he bought it for me.
From; Nicko(:
I love you too babygirl.I grinned like a lunatic at my phone as I got into the drivers seat and started the car.
I'm the luckiest girl in the world.

I was exhausted by the end of the day, and almost fell asleep on the ride home. I walked into the house and was immediately curious at the soft glow of candles that lit the house.
"Babe?" I called out softly, not wanting to ruin the peace he'd created. I jumped as arms wrapped around my waist then settled into Nicko's chest.
"I know you had a stressful day, so I figured I could help you relax." He murmured in my ear.
I smiled hugely, "Oh my God that sounds amazing." He took my hand and led me through the house to where a literal fort was set up with a bunch of pillows and blankets. "Did you do all of this?" I asked, as we settled down and he started to open the food.
"Nah." He grinned, "It was like this when I got home."
I giggled and hit his shoulder, then snuggled into his chest, "So what's for dinner?"
He reached for the boxes of takeout, "I got you bang bang shrimp from that chinese place you like and a green salad with ginger dressing." I smiled, unable to stop the tears from falling from my eyes as I sniffled and hugged his torso tightly. "Why are you crying? What happened?" Nicko began to panic and I shook my head, leaning up to kiss his cheek.
"Nothings wrong, everything is perfect right now and I'm just getting emotional because i'm fucking pregnant."
Nicko chuckled, "It's just dinner."
I shook my head, "It's not just tonight. I know so many women who get pregnant and the dad just freaks out and leaves but you didn't and you don't understand how much that means to me. I-I've been let down a lot in life by people who are supposed to care about me and I'm so happy that I've let myself trust you."
Nicko smiled big but I could tell he chose his next words very carefully, "What do you mean by.... you've been let down by people who are supposed to care about you."
I bit my lip, I'd been hoping to avoid this conversation with Nicko since the second we started getting serious. It's not that I don't trust him, I just don't think he's ever going to be able to go to Texas with me and not end up in jail for murder. With a sigh I sat up on his lap and faced him, twisting my fingers nervously. "I'm going to tell you something that I don't tell a lot of people. I need you to promise that you won't freak out, or do anything rash and stupid."
His brow furrowed, and he slowly nodded, "I'll listen."
I nodded and took a deep breath, "When I was little my dad had this friend... They used to drink together all the time. One night... He came into my room, drunk." I peaked at Nicko's face and it was blank, but I could practically see the gears turning in his mind. "He uhm..." I took a shuddering breath, "He forced me to do things with him and many times after th-" Nicko lifted me off of him and ducked out of the blanket tent, breathing heavily I could see his entire body shaking from the rage he was trying to control for my sake. I stayed quiet, watching him pace back and forth, his muscles straining against his t-shirt as he muttered to himself. Finally, I got up the nerve to join him.
"Nik ca-"
"Demi do not tell me to calm down right now. I'm sorry but I don't trust myself to be close to you right now... I'm gonna go blow off some steam, you finish eating."
I sighed and nodded, watching his hulking frame disappear into the home gym. About ten minutes later, I cracked open the door and peaked in. Nicko was slamming his fists into a boxing bag, hitting as hard as he could, one of his punches sent the bag off of the hook, it hit the ground with a thump and Nicko dropped to his knees, gripping his hair in his hands. I stepped inside and kneeled beside him, he jumped a bit when I touched his shoulder, then relaxed when I began to massage them.
"Talk to me."
He blew air out of his lungs in a huff, "What's his name and address."
I bit my lip, "Nik you're not gonna kill him." Nicko turned to me and I was shocked to see tears in his eyes, "Baby why are you crying?"
He chuckled bitterly, "Demi you're my world. To think that I wasn't there to protect you against something so vile, so horrible, makes me so angry at myself even if I was what, eight years old at the time? It's the way I'm wired."
I nodded and rubbed his arms, "Well good thing you're not coming to Texas with me any time soon."
Nicko frowned, "You're not going to Texas ever again without me by your side as long as he is alive which I assume he is."
I nodded, "I know where he lives, it's the same house."
He looked up, "Did anything ever happen there?"
I smiled weakly, "I don't think you'll be able to stomach my horror stories. That's enough for one night." Nicko's hands began to tremble and I gently kissed the tops of them, "Just relax, I told you because you're my bestfriend and my person. I didn't want revenge or anything it's just something you should know."
He nodded, "Demi I want you to promise me something."
I looked up at him, "Okay."
He looked down at me with such powerful emotion I nearly started crying again, "If anyone ever hurts you again, I don't care about the status of our relationship, I want you to find me. Find me and I'll protect you."
I nodded and pulled him close, "I promise."

"Demi." I opened my eyes to see Nicko standing there, one hand cupping my cheek the other behind his back and smiled sleepily.
"Hi."
He chuckled, "Good morning beautiful." I didn't answer, I just pulled him closer to me and buried my face in his chest. "By the way... Happy Anniversary." I looked up, and he held up a single red rose.
"Nik oh my God thank you."
He smiled sheepishly, "So I made us reservations tonight at seven... is that okay?"
I nodded shyly and kissed him gently, "Happy anniversary baby."
