CHAPTER 9
Demi's POV
"You'll be fine." I whispered into Nicko's ear, pulling him into a hug. Today was the day we were going to see Nicko's parents for the first time since he left for LA. "What if they don't want to see me?" Nicko asked, worry filling his deep blue eyes. I shook me head, "You're their son. They love you, and they're gonna be happy to see you." Nicko nodded and took a deep breath. "I love you." I kissed his nose, "Love you too baby."

Nicko's hand was shaking and sweating as we pulled up to the big house after an hour drive. "Home sweet home." He said sourly. I rubbed his forearm. "It's going to be fine. I promise." He nodded and got out, walking around to my side of the car and opening the door for me. I smiled and him and got a weak grimace in return. We walked up the driveway and stood on the porch for a couple of minutes. "Nicko." I said, he looked at me, "You have to knock for them to know you're there." He nodded again, and took a deep breath, then raised his fist and knocked three times.
There was the sound of movement behind the doors and then it swung open to reveal a short woman with long dark hair pulled into a bun. "Can I help you?" She asked, peering up at us- Well, Nicko, I'm the same height as her. I looked at Nicko, who looked like he was going to be sick. I stepped forward slightly, "Mrs.Baker?" The woman's face showed confusion, "Yes?" "My name is Demi Lovato, this is..." I trailed off and looked up and Nicko. He squared his jaw, "Mom?" The lady's face immediately changed into shock, and then her eyes filled with tears. "My boy." She said, and pulled him into a hug. "My boy, oh you've grown so much!" She blubbered into his shoulder. Then took both of our hands and pulled us inside. "Howard! Come here!" She called into the depths of the house. She led us into the living room, where a man was sitting, reading the paper. He looked up at our entrance, "What's this?" He looked at his wife, then at me, then at Nicko. When Mr.Baker's eyes reached his son's face his expression turned stormy. He stood up and Nicko stepped in front of me protectively, "Get. Out." Nicko's mom stepped in front of him, "Howard plea-" She flinched back when he raised his hand. That's when Nicko lost it. "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?" He roared, causing his mom and I to jump a foot into the air. Nicko's hands curled into fists as he tried to keep his anger in check. He stepped foward and got into his father's face. "IF YOU'VE EVER LAID A FINGER ON MY MOTHER I SWEAR TO GOD I'LL-" He broke off as a shudder rippled through his body. "NICKO. SHE ISN'T YOUR MOTHER ANYMORE. SHE WASN'T YOUR MOTHER THE DAY YOU TURNED YOUR BACK ON THIS FAMILY." His father shouted back. Nicko's mother walked towards me and pulled me away from the two men. "You don't want to see this." I turned back to the men and walked over to Nicko. "Nicko." I said. His eyes looked flat black as he roared curses at his father and tensed his muscles, trying not to attack him. "Nicko." I repeated, and placed my hand on the small of his back. At my touch, Nicko straightened up like someone had shocked him. He looked at me and his expression softened, Then, his father attacked. I saw it coming out the corner of my eye, but nothing could prepare me for the blow fast enough as I threw myself in front of Nicko, and the sharp slap hit my cheek. I fell to the ground and clutched my face. With a roar that could have shaken the foundation of the house Nicko charged his father and slammed him to the ground, hitting him again and again, It struggled to get up, my I was hazy. Finally, my head cleared and managed to wrench Nicko off of his father. His eyes were crazed as he kept trying to grab the older man. "Nicko." I yelled, it was like he couldn't even hear me. I pressed my lips against his, trying to calm him down. His lips melted against mine, and I felt his body slump. I helped him off of the floor, "I think it's best if we're not here when he wakes up." I said, pointing to Nicko's father, who was laying on the floor covered in blood. "He'll be fine, just a couple of bruises, i'm glad you stopped him when you did." Mrs.Baker said to me kindly. "I'm sorry, it was my fault we came here." I said. "It's nothing dear, just being able to see my son again is something I couldn't ever repay you for." She hugged Nicko, who was still incoherent, and we walked to the car. He walked to the driver's side but I stopped him, "Uhm babe? Maybe I should drive?" He nodded and silently handed over the keys, getting into the passenger seat. I could feel my face started to bruise, and I figured it's better if he doesn't see it while we're still int he vicinity of his father. I started the car, and we began the long drive back to New York.
