Demi
I sat down on the couch with a tired sigh as Nicko pulled out of the driveway. Mia was in bed and asleep, hopefully for the night, so it was just me and the little guy who had the tendency to kick my left side. I pulled my shirt over my belly and softly ran my fingers over the skin there, smiling when a small bulge pushed back out at me. I pressed against the small bump and felt tears well up in my eyes. I hope he looked just like Nicko, with big heartbreaker blue eyes and jet black hair. I was about five months in, but I couldn't wait to see Nicko holding his son for the first time. With Mia, he had the most adorable expression, like nothing else in the world mattered but his baby girl.
I shifted uncomfortably, I had been having cramps throughout the day, but it was nothing major so I didn't tell Nicko about it, but now they were getting stronger. They felt a lot like contractions. I grimaced and suddenly hunched, curling over my stomach as a pain like a knife stabbed through me.
"Fuck." I panted, and grabbed my phone, dialing Nicko's number. It rung a few times, then went to voicemail. I called again and again until it became apparently he wasn't answering anytime soon. I dialed my mom, but no one answered either. Marissa and Dallas had their phones off so I threw mine on the couch in frustration, tears leaking from my eyes from the pain. After a few moments, I gritted my teeth and called 911.
"911, what is your emergency?"
"I'm pregnant, and I think something is wrong. I have very bad cramps that feel like contractions, but it's way too early for them. I need an ambulance to south view hospital.
"Okay Miss, I need you to remain calm. What is your address?"
I gave him the address, and he assured me an ambulance would be right over. I called my mom again and again but no one was picking up and I let out a small scream of frustration. Finally I called one of our nannies, Jessica, and she said she'd be over right away to bring Mia to the hospital in her car and watch her. I curled into the couch and tried to take deep breaths while my heart beat out of the chest. The door opened, and a voice sounded.
"Demi?"
It was Jessica.
"In here."
She walked in and gasped. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." I whispered, and heard the sirens in the distance. "Keep the door open for the ambulance and follow behind us in your car. Mia is sleeping in the nursery."
"Demi where's Nicko? Do you want me to call him?"
"I did." I said, gritting my teeth as a new wave of pain swept over me. "He's out drinking with his friends and has his phone off."
"Okay, do you know what club? I can have someone go pick him up."
"I have no idea what club. It's fine. I'll be fine."
The paramedics walked in and instantly snapped into action, getting me on a gurney and into the ambulance. They asked me all different questions on the way to the hospital including whether or not the baby's father was in the picture.
"Yes." I sighed. "He's out and I can't get ahold of him."
"Do you want the hospital to call him?"
I gave him Nicko's number, along with the people he was with, and laid back, finally able to focus on my breathing and stop myself from having a full blown panic attack.
We got to the hospital and multiple people were waiting to help me change into a hospital gown and then take me to the VIP floor. Jessica was right behind the ambulance and brought to a waiting room while they examined me.
"Hello Miss Lovato I am Dr. Highton, I understand you're having some pain?"
"Yes." I whispered, putting my legs into the stirrups and closing my eyes when he inserted the camera into me.
"Well it looks like there is some irritation in your uterus. I'm going to do a normal ultrasound to get a better picture of the baby so we can make sure nothing's wrong."
"Okay." I said again, in the same quiet tone.
He put some gel on my stomach, then rubbed the wand around, the tension in my chest easing when I heard the heartbeat.
"Nice and strong, not too fast, so the fetus is not in distress." He paused. "Do you know the sex?"
"Yes." I murmured. "A boy."
"Congrats." He smiled. "Your son is healthy and perfectly okay. I'm going to set you up on an Iv drip to keep your hydrated, but I'm thinking the cramps come from too much activity. Have you been working out? Doing a lot of walking or running? Bending down?"
"I have a one year old." I said, giving him a look. "All of the above."
"Right." He smiled again. "I'll give you something for the pain, but I'm gonna keep you here on bedrest to watch your cervix so we can catch any early labor for the next forty eight hours, but when you go home, you'll have to take it easily and take a few more prenatals."
"Thank you." I said softly, and looked back up at the ceiling.
He walked out, and I laid there for a while, staring at the ceiling in misery. All I wanted was Nicko to be here but I was so angry with him I knew it wasn't going to be pretty when he eventually stumbled in.
"Demi?"
Jessica was here, holding Mia.
"How's everything going?"
I shifted to sit up, wincing as my body protested. "Okay. Just overactivity and dehydration."
"I didn't get ahold of Nicko or his friends, but I'll keep trying."
"Okay."
"Do you want to hold Mia?"
I sighed and rubbed my face. "Sure."
Jessica gently transferred Mia into my arms, and I couldn't help but smile when her eyes opened blearily and a happy smile spread across her cheeks when she recognized me. A moment later though, she passed out again, her head falling on my shoulder with her hand pressed against my neck.
"She's so cute." Jessica murmured fondly.
"She is." I said, then sighed. "Can you start calling my mom again? I need her here, and tell Marissa if you get ahold of her what's going on and that Nicko might be at Club Talo. She'll go get him."
"Okay Demi, is there anything else?"
"No." I said, and closed my eyes. "I just need you to do whatever you can to get Nicko here."

It was two hours later that my mom came in, her face panicked."I'm so sorry baby girl." She said, kissing my hair and then Mia's. "I was asleep and my phone was on silent. I'm so sorry. Jessica said Nicko isn't here? Why not? Where is he?"
I swallowed hard. "He's at the club with his friends. He won't answer his phone. I don't know what to do anymore. I need him mom."
"Demi calm down, okay? He'll be here soon."
"He's supposed to be here now." I snapped. "He's not supposed to be drunk at a club with his phone turned off while his pregnant fiance is home."
"I know baby, I know. Do you know what club he's at?"
"Talo. It's in downtown LA."
"Okay. I'll get someone down there."
She walked out of the room typing on the phone and I leaned back again, absentmindedly stroking Mia's soft head of hair. It was now a chocolate brown, but her eyes were as blue as ever. She was truly Nicko's child.
