"Dammit, I forgot to charge my phone." I muttered, not pleased by my 5% battery life. I must have fallen asleep watching TV last night.
My parents were right though, going to sleep early really did feel good. I didn't bother checking my messages, knowing I most likely didn't have any. Trudging to my closet, I pulled out a denim skirt and striped shirt that complemented my black boots.
While in the shower, the events of yesterday flooded my memory. I was still curious as to who my parents let into our house. Who was staying with us? Whoever it was, they seemed to be young.
Maybe it was just uncle Shawn... Though it didn't sound like him.
I waved it off and continued to get dressed."Riley, honey!" My mom called from outside the bathroom.
"Yes, mom!"
"Do you mind helping your dad at topanga's this afternoon?"
I sighed heavily. I planned on binge watching Netflix and enjoying my Friday night with Maya, but I didn't want to let my mom down. "Yeah sure, I'll be there." I mumbled.
After straightening my hair, I grabbed my black bomber jacket and book bag. "See you later, Augs." I kissed his cheek.
"Riley, I'm 12 years old. You don't have to kiss me goodbye anymore."
I laughed at his red cheeks, ruffling his hair. "I'll kiss you goodbye even when you're 35."
He rolled his eyes at me and opened the door. "See you later Riles."
I rushed out of the building and down the stairs, where maya and Zay were waiting for me. "Hey guys." I smiled widely, hugging my best friend. Zay stood there awkwardly, pretending to be on his phone. I made a mental note to talk to him later on.
I ignored his behavior and linked my arm in Maya's.
"You didn't get my text, did you?" She questioned.
"I didn't check, why?"
"Just look." She smirked. I narrowed my eyes at her, suspicious as to what she had up her sleeve.
I pulled out my phone and went to my messaging app, but one name in particular made me gasp.
"I know, right!" Maya laughed.
"No, I... Wait a minute." I stammered, opening the message from Farkle.
Always.
It was Farkle. Farkle is the one who's staying at our house. It all made sense now, my mom didn't want me to see him because we didn't leave off on good terms.
I didn't know how to feel about it. Did I forgive him? I did miss him, but I wasn't ready to let him back into my life. Not yet.
"Riley, what is it?" Maya asked, leaving over my shoulder. I quickly shut my phone off.
"It's nothing, Charlie just texted me."
She looked me over before sighing. I hated lying to her, but she would kill my parents if she knew that they were letting him stay with us.

"Riley Matthews!" My English teacher boomed. I went to the front desk to grab my report card. My grades had to be on point. If not, bye bye NYU.
I took in a deep breath, reading over my grades.
An A in psychology, an A in gym, a B+ in social studies, an A- in calculus, an A in English, and a B in art. I laughed to myself, amused by the rest of the people in my class. Most people flunked, but flunk was not in my vocabulary. Plus, I'd definitely be grounded if I came home with anything less than a C plus.
"Another perfect report card, Matthews?" I recognized the voice from anywhere. In middle school she tried to steal my boyfriend, or Maya's boyfriend if I might.
"What do you want, Missy?"
Missy laughed coldly, her long brown hair moving along with her bobbling head. She's always been jealous of me, but I thought the teasing would stop way back in ninth grade. Nope, I guess I was wrong.
"I got all A's, try and beat that!"
"I'm happy for you," I smiled, choosing not to give in to her ignorance. "You're definitely gonna go places."
Missy stared at me for a while, the scowl on her face merging into a small smile. "Why are you so nice to me?"
"Two wrongs don't make a right. I'm not someone who likes fighting, I guess."
"I'm sorry, Riley." Missy suddenly blurted. "I've been a real bitch to you for too long."
Missy was apologizing? I widened my eyes in shock. "I accept your apology.""By the way... I only messed with you because.. I want what you have."
"And what do I have exactly?"
"Your best friends, your boyfriend, your parents.. You're so... perfect." She trailed off.
"I'm nowhere near perfect, miss." I scoffed. "Friends?"
"Friends." She repeated.
