The Debutante

'Ladies and Gentleman please welcome the debutante of the evening, Ava Marie Montenegro. Accompanied by her brother Evan Alexander Montenegro.' The host said as the two made their way to the front. Over two hundred people occupied the biggest ballroom of the Onyx Hotel. The media took flashes of the beautiful debutante as she made her way to her throne that sat in the middle of the stage. Applause and awe filled the room as the debutante took off her mask. No one ever saw the Montenegro heiress before, this was the first time in 18 years where she made her appearance to the public.

'Before the party starts Mr. Montenegro has a few words.' The host passed the mic to Alvin Montenegro, who stood right next to his wife and kids. A complete family once again. A smile formed on his face. 'On behalf of my wife and family we would like to say thank you for all that attended today to come celebrate our daughter's coming of age. Before we begin with the festivities we ask that everyone join hands as we pray.' Mr. Montenegro passed the mic down to the host and locked hands with his family. As the prayer went on so did the festivities. Ava walked from table to table greeting everyone and taking pictures even though 75% of them were all strangers to her. Her brother pulls her into the photo booth along with all the Valles and Montenegro cousins and gathered for a group photo. They were all squeezing in trying to all fit in the picture. Mrs. Montenegro couldn't help but laugh as she saw her daughter's genuine smile.

'You know I haven't seen her this happy since she got her driver's license.' Her mother said to Iliana Montenegro her sister-in-law.

'Does she know?' Iliana asked. Elena simply shook her head. 'How's she going to react after she finds out?' Elena didn't know what to say. 'I don't know, we'll just have to wait and find out.' Elena simply said.

Meanwhile at another location, 'Michael hurry up! The party already started and we haven't even left the house yet. They won't start the festivities until we get there.' The man screamed to his son Michael.

'Does it really have to be me who will represent the our family dad?! Can't it be Brandon?' He complained to his father as he fixed his tie. 'You go ahead without me. I'll drive myself there. Plus the 18 roses don't start until 8pm it's only 6:30, I have time.' He said to his father who was heading to the venue. Michael was one of the 17 roses to represent his family at the Montenegro debut.

'Oh, Carter! Where's Michael?' Mr. Montenegro said to Carter Solis one of his trusted colleagues as he arrived with his wife and son, Brandon. 'You know him. Always late.' He said to Alvin. 'I hope Ava makes the right choice in picking Michael.' Alvin said. Alvin didn't have much choice when it came to picking the roses. He was lucky enough that the Solis family was chosen. He knew his daughter would be in good hands if she was to pick their son. The Solis family was the only family both Alvin and Elena trusted and understood their situation. Their hands were tied in the decision making. All the Valles and Montenegro kids were to be engaged at 18 and married at 21, that applied to the girls. For the boys in that family there was no formal engagement it was just a marriage and a contract signing. Until the first generation was still alive the fate of the Valles and Montenegro children were still decided. For Ava today wasn't just her debut it was her engagement party as well.
