The Not-So-Good Homecoming
'I've come to get Ava.' Evan said to Victor as he welcomed him in. 'Sit. I'll go get her.' Victor said the Evan as he made his way to the room.
'Dad I found her. What's your 10-20?' Evan said silently to the radio. 'On our way there now. ETA 5 minutes.' His father said on the other end. He turned off the radio and listened in on the runaways conversation. Victor also listened to the silent conversation between the two Montenegro men.
Ava was packing her stuff when Victor came in. 'They've come to get you now.' Tears were falling down Ava's eyes. 'I know, I heard his voice when you opened the door. Why does he have to do this to me? He of all people should understand what I am going through!' Ava cried in frustration as she tied the plastic bag filled with her clothes. 'He's waiting for you Ava.'
Evan sat down as soon as he heard the bedroom door close. 'She'll be out in five minutes.' Victor handed Evan a glass of Brandy. 'You know I didn't want to do this.' Evan sipped the beverage. 'Why did you do it?' Victor asked. 'He threatened to hurt my family if I didn't. I know what my father is capable of. You do know what he could do to you?'
'Yes I am very aware of that. I am beyond prepared what he can do to me. Just as long as Ava doesn't get hurt. I am willing to get hurt in the process.'
'You're a brave man. If you think dad is scary wait until what Lolo Raúl will do to you.'
'Not helping man.' Evan chuckled.
'But honestly, I see how much you love Ava. But do you know that dad likes you too.' Victor's forehead scrunched in confusion. 'Dad likes you for Ava, but to be a part of the family is what he doesn't like because your family is a huge asset to the Montenegro Family. Basically, Lolo Raúl benefits from you and not dad. Dad will do everything just to tear Lolo down, that's why he doesn't approve of your relationship.' Evan concluded.
'Kuya. Is that true?' Evan looked at his sister who was standing in the kitchen.
'So you must've heard everything then?' Evan retorted back.
'My ears were given to me for a reason.' She sarcastically defended herself. 'To answer your question. Yes, I heard everything.'
'Then why---' Evan was about to ask another question when his father came to the door. 'Hija, you need to go now. Evan take her home. I'll stay here with Victor.'
'NO DAD!!! I AM STAYING HERE WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!!!' Ava yelled. Evan tried to hold her back. 'Kuya Let go of me!!!!' Evan couldn't hold her back anymore because she was too strong for his hold. 'DAD!!! For once can I get to choose my life!!!' *pak* A slap came across her face . Ava looked at her dad in disgust.
Ava left with Evan after he father slapped her. She had nowhere to run and hide. 'You of all people should be able to understand me!' She yelled as she pushed her brother with anger. 'You of all people should've stopped dad from doing this! You knew it was coming but yet you didn't stop him! Why Kuya?!' She cried with anger. 'Why did you tell dad where I was?'
'You're too young to understand Ava.' Evan said trying to calm her. 'Too young to understand! Fuck this! I understand everything that has happened in this family. I am not stupid every time you try to shelter me from all this, you guys end up opening up my curiosity! I've had it with this family!' She ran to her brothers car, the only place where she could cry and vent. 'Ava wait!' Her brother called to her, but she kept running.
Ava sobbed and sobbed. Listening to the rain pouring on to the cars roof. Evan comes in wet and soaked. 'Ava...I'm sorry. I know what I did was wrong but it was also the right thing.'
'How was that the right thing?!'
'Dad threatened to hurt Karlie and Elie. I had to put them first. You know dad, he's a man of his word. I just don't want to see Karlie hurt anymore. She's been through a lot physically and emotionally.' She can see the love her brother has for his family, it's evident as the tears were running down his face. From there she understood why he did that. He wanted to protect his family something their father couldn't do.
