The Governor's Ball

The moment she walked in everyone's attention focused on her. Every bachelor young and old stared at the beautiful young lady entering the ballroom with her brother by her side. The flashing lights at every direction blinded Ava for a quick second, but she got use to it. After all, this is going to be her life. The spotlight was now hers and everybody knew so.

"Who's this beautiful lady right beside you Mr. Montenegro?" One of the paparazzi asked.

"This beauty right here is my little sister Ava. She is the heir to he Montenegro fortune." He said with confidence showing off his beautiful baby sister to the world. "Now if you'll excuse us, our family is waiting for us." He kindly said to the press as he was helping his sister through the crowds of media.

"I'm glad you finally made it sweetie. The Governor was about to make a toast until you came in. You practically stole the show!" Her mother said handing her a glass of apple cider. The attention that was once on Ava turned back to the man testing the mic in front of the podium. It was the Governor.

"Good evening, everyone!" He greeted to the crowd. "Tonight I want to thank you all for attending the annual charity ball in my name. This year all proceeds will go to the children's hospital to fund health expenses for patients who aren't able to afford treatment. I thank everyone who has donated tonight. The silent auction will continue until the the end of the night so place your bids people. Special thanks to the Montenegro family for letting us auction out their ranch style home." He said raising a glass to the family. "Anyways, tonight is all about a new era. As of tonight I will be stepping down from my position as governor. I know the news is very sudden, but I am not getting any younger. These last eight years have been really amazing, we got a lot of things on our agenda done, though we've accomplished so much there is more to be done and the perfect candidate for the job is none other than Alvin Montenegro." The people in attendance clapped. Everyone was in shock by the revelation they heard. "Alvin has been a long time friend of mine and I feel he is the perfect candidate for my position in office. I've seen his work as mayor and I feel that this will help him in his political career. He's young and this is what our office needs. Someone who will understand the concern of our people and someone will be able to find a solution to the never ending problems we have. So tonight without further adieu, let me introduce to you Mayor Alvin Montenegro, along with his beautiful family." The Montenegro's stood up as they made their way to the stage, Ava was the very last one as everyone's attention was focused on her.

"Thank you Governor for entrusting me with this position. I am honored to be your successor and continue the many amazing things you have done for our community. As I step down as mayor to fulfill my role as the new governor, my vice mayor Carter Solis, will take my place as head mayor." The crowd turned to the Solis family and it was evident that Carter Solis was in shock. "I trust that he will succeed in this endeavor. Cheers to you my friend!" He said raising his glass or Chardonnay. "Tonight isn't just an important night for me, but for my family as well. My daughter Ava is engaged to Mayor Solis' son Michael and they are to be married next month. We are beyond blessed to become one huge family. Hopefully, we can have this family grow." His father looks as Ava as she paints a faint smile on her face. She had to pretend to look happy even if she didn't feel happy.

Her life was already planned for her, from the money, to fame. It was all within reach all she has to do is marry Michael Solis. A man who's family is very influential, a business graduate from an Ivy League school, and a guy who's heart is elsewhere. She had everything she could ever wish for but beyond the fame and fortune, she felt incomplete, well...mostly her heart. It was of because the money and the fame where everyone she loved was slowly leaving her. She never wanted her life and she would do anything to replace it.

When her father announced her engagement to the entire world. She looked at Brandon who was in dismay. Michael had a fake smile on his face but deep down he was sad. While Cora just watched from the very back as tears rolled down her face as she caressed her stomach.

Michael locked eyes with his bride to be as  he helped her down the stage. He admitted she was very beautiful that night and he like the other men in the room could not stop staring at the beautiful lady. "You look gorgeous tonight." He whispered in her ear, making her slightly blush. She just smiled at him as the media were taking photos of her and Michael. Everyone started greeting the couple and a few kisses, hugs, and photos from friends and families were exchanged in the process. Ava started to loosen up and she found herself enjoying the presence of everyone in attendance. For the first time in a long time, Ava was laughing happily and socializing with others. The Governors Ball will never be the same after her father takes oath.
