Two Lost Souls

Her silk white robe carefully wrapped around her body as she stared into the mirror, she saw the reflection of a young not-so-innocent 18 year old woman. She could see the sadness in her eyes as the makeup that she wore was all gone, it was replaced with sweat. Her dark charcoal black hair was disheveled no longer having a wet look. As little tears dropped from her eyes she glanced her head out the bathroom door at the man sleeping peacefully on the bed. He was wrapped in the hotel's comforter with his bare back exposed to the ceiling and his short black hair disheveled.

She remembered the night of the Governor's Ball, all eyes were on her as her father introduced her to the crowd in attendance. She was a stunning young lady, that captured the eyes of the many bachelors, her spotlight ended when her fiancé Michael Solis was introduced to the crowd. His arrogant personality disgusted her as he would pretend to be affectionate towards her. Planting little kisses on to her hands, wrapping his arms around her every time they were introduced to colleagues of her fathers. She couldn't stop him because they had both signed a legal contract and she wasn't about to break it. The least thing she wanted was for her family's name to be dragged into another lawsuit.

As the night of the ball came to a close, Michael returned to his normal, careless self. He left her out in the chilly summer night, alone in a red velvet dress that exposed much of her body.

"What is a beautiful lady like you doing outside here alone?" Brandon asked Ava, as he draped his dress coat over her exposed shoulders, providing her with warmth. He had chosen to stay behind because he had a room rented for the evening and wanted some proper rest. One in which he couldn't get a home with his parents constantly arguing. He had felt like a kid all over again, having sleepless nights hearing his parents yell at each other.

"Your cocky brother decided to leave me after everyone left and now I am waiting for a cab." Ava huffed in frustration crossing her arms around her chest. From a distance she could see Michael holding his blazer in his arms, the smile he had turned into a smirk as he watched his brother comfort Ava. With the blazer still wrapped in his arms he walked towards the east end of the Onyx Hotel to the bar. "My brother is has a mind of his own. I still can't believe he left you here out in the cold." Brandon's worries tone turned into frustration not towards Ava, but at his brother Michael. As the summer night became colder Brandon took out his wallet that was resting on his back pocket of his slacks. He was shuffling through the many card slots to find a single piece of white plastic with the Onyx Hotel logo. Ava looked in confusion as Brandon was shuffling through his wallet. "What are you looking for B?" She asks with curiosity. Brandon did not say anything, but instead handed her the keycard that he spent the last minute and a half looking for.

Handing her the keycard she asks, "what's this for B?" He simply smiled at her as he placed his wallet back into his pocket. He laughs playfully at her oblivion. "Just follow me." He says still laughing at her. Ava still confused and frustrated quietly follows Brandon as they make their way to the lobby of the Onyx Hotel.

Upon entering the lobby the hotel employees focus their eyes on Ava Montenegro who followed Brandon to the elevators. Small whispers from the employees lingered as the door of the elevator closed. Michael notice the two enter the elevator as well as the gossiping employees. Casually he approaches the lady at the front desk who was with her fellow co-worker.

"Good evening sir, would you like to check in for the night?" The lady who's name plate says 'Cara' smiles professionally at Michael.

"Do you happen to know what room Brandon Solis is staying in?" He asks out of curiosity. Though he and his brother weren't on the best of terms he still respected his brother's privacy especially when he heard word of his brother potentially being the successor of his soon-to-be father-in-law, as mayor; now that Mayor Montenegro will be the newly appointed governor come the end of November.
