I thought turning 18 would be the best thing that ever happened to me, but I was wrong when I found out I was set to marry someone. Whom, already which, has a girlfriend, who happens to be my cousin. My parents tried everything they could to not mak...
The cool summer breeze blew across her face as she was riding her motorcycle freely across the highway. A lot was going through her busy mind. She didn't know what she was going to do. It had been almost a week since Cora's best kept secret was revealed. Ava didn't speak to anyone afterwards. She kept her distance with Brandon and had small talk with her family. Her parents and Brandon knew that she wasn't herself but they never knew the reason. She kept to herself mostly to avoid any scandal before the wedding, the least she wanted was her name being dragged into personal family drama. She hated the spotlight and she was trying her best to stay out of it, but every time she keeps moving back from the situation something or someone brings her closer. She realized she had to face the world.
The Governor's Ball that was to take place in three days time. The Ball consisted of diplomats, politicians, and every government official. It was celebrated annually asa charity event that wasn't open to the public, you had to be invited and the governor in office decides the guest list. Sometimes there are celebrities and humanitarians who go out and support the charity auction. This year is different, the governor is stepping down from his position and he will be appointing a new governor and her father is the most favorable candidate for office. Though she didn't want to go, she had to support her father and this would be the day she was to be introduced to the media. After many years of avoiding the spotlight it's time she show people the new and improve Ava Montenegro, the Ava that is fierce, strong, bold, and a force to be reckoned with.
She arrived home to the sight of her father and mother preparing for the ball. Her father was looking dapper with his three piece designer suit. Her mother was wearing an off-white cocktail dress that was above the knee nicely accentuating her curve figure and long legs. They looked very young for being in heir 40s.
"You have an hour to get ready Ava!" Her father looked at his watch and spoke to her with authority. "Please look presentable. Your mother picked out your outfit for tonight so please wear it." Ava didn't want to argue with her father, it was a waste of time and energy so instead she just nodded and ascended to her bedroom. Laying on her bed was a velvet plunging v-neck dress that had a slit on the right side that exposed her right leg. She didn't have time to do her hair she went with the wet hair look. She completed the outfit with silver stilettos and a fur shawl. She did a little light makeup ad managed to finish getting ready with only 15 minutes left to spare.

"I knew that dress would fit you perfectly Ava!" Her mom said with awe as Ava went down the stairs.
"I remember that dress, that was the same dress you wore at the Governor's Ball 25 years ago, but the dress didn't look like that. The slit wasn't there and the neckline was a bit higher. I should know cause I was the one who gave it to you." Her father said describing her mother.
"Yes, dear this is the dress you gave me, but I wanted the dress to fit with the time period. I had it altered. I had the neckline lowered and I had the side cut to form a slit. I still can't believe it fits you perfectly." Her mother said admiring her beautiful daughter.
"Mom, why are you letting her go out like that?!" Evan complained as he stepped into the living room with Elie and Karlie, as he was fixing his tie and Karlie was adjusting Ellie's bow. A smile formed on her face to see that her family was complete again and this time with added members. Ava felt beautiful and confident in the dress her mother gave her and just shook her head at her brother's reaction. Her only focus was on her niece Ellie, who was wearing a baby pink dress, with white ballet flats, and a pink flower bow.
"What's wrong with what's she's wearing Evan?" Karlie asked as she was carrying Ellie on her side, while Ava was playing with Ellie's soft little hands. "This is the style nowadays." She explained to him.
"She's showing too much skin babe. I don't want my sister to be daydreamed about from other guys." He explained.
"It's the guys that need to be controlled Kuya. We women can wear what we please, but you guys need to learn how to respect women and have self-control." Ava defended. If there was one thing Ava didn't like, it was men bringing her down. She is a feminist and believes that women shouldn't be inferior to men, in fact, she believes that they need to be equal. Her brother didn't respond because he knew Ava was right.
"Come on, Ava made her point already. We're going to be late for the Governor's Ball. Your parents left already Evan." Karlie playfully said to Evan as he grabbed Ellie from her arms. She was pregnant again and Evan didn't want her doing strenuous things and holding Ellie was one of them. Though she was only two years old, she was very heavy and chunky.
"Wait what about me. If my parents already left and you guys are about to leave, how am I going to get to the Governors Ball?" Ava asked with confusion in her voice.
"The car service is arriving in five minutes to pick you up. Don't worry, I did a background check on the driver and I got the plate number of the car. So you're perfectly safe little Ava." Her brother said as he kissed her temple before walking out of their family home.
After her brother left, the car service immediately arrived. She wondered why she had to arrive by herself instead of riding with her parents. She understood why she wasn't able to ride with her brother, his car was small and Ellie's carseat took up most of the space in the back.
Ava arrived at the Onyx Hotel, the same venue she had her debut just a few weeks back. This was a very prominent hotel for the rich and people with influence. Most of the parties Ava has attended has taken place there. The Onyx Hotel was super modern and had a Victorian feel to the interior. The entrance of the Onyx Hotel was beautifully lit as the steps leading up to the door was wrapped with Christmas lights and flowers. A man suited in the hotel's maroon uniform stood at the foot of the car door and opened it. He offered his hand to Ava to help her out of the car. He even assisted her up the stairs of the Onyx Hotel.
Meanwhile, inside the Onyx Hotel everyone was awaiting the announcement of the governor. Every socialite, and political figure was in attendance. There were murmurs about what his announcement might be.
Is he stepping down? Is he planning a re-election? Is heretiring?
All those questions lingered throughout the event hall.
Ava arrived to the event hall, seeing everyone dressed in their finest designer gowns and suits made Ava feel uncomfortable. These types of events weren't her thing, but she needed to go. After all, she is the daughter of the Mayor so her attendance was expected. The darting eyes of people staring at her as she walked in wasn't helping to ease her nerves, it just made it worse. Everybody couldn't help but look at her. No one recognized Ava, everyone was so used to her demure and innocent look, but tonight was different. People saw this girl as a fierce and confident not knowing that she was a Montenegro.
"Oh Ava! You're here, I was just about to call you to see if you've arrived, but it looks like I don't need to anymore." Her said putting his phone in his pocket and guiding his sister into the event hall. "Mom and dad are looking for you." In her head Ava was screaming for joy, thanks to Evan she no longer was feeling uncomfortable. Her brother always seem to be at the right place at the right time to save her.
"The driver dropped you off at the wrong entrance. He was suppose to drop you off at the east wing of the hotel." Ava saw the frustration in his eyes. "Now it irritates me because what your wearing is too revealing and second I know you hate the spotlight. So I know you're very uncomfortable right now. If something were to happen to you tonight my conscious wouldn't take it very well." She loved how protective her brother was of her. "I know for sure all eyes will be on you tonight." Her brother said as they entered the event hall.
