Evan Montenegro
"Kuya, what are you doing here?" Ava was super surprised seeing her brother in the house. The last time she saw him was on her sweet sixteen and that was three months ago.
He kissed Ava on her forehead. "I'm doing good. Mom called me the other night crying. I came here to see her to see if she's alright." Evan was a mama's boy and would do anything for his mother.
"I am worried too. I think it has something to do with dad because she's been sleeping in my room the past few nights and dad has been coming home in the middle of the night. This is different from the fights they have had before. I think this is serious." She explained with disappointment. "It's a good thing you came. I don't know how to calm mom. It hurts to see her cry because she's such a strong woman who doesn't show her emotions." Ava had a sad tone in her voice.
"I'll talk to mom and dad, don't worry. Is mom here?" Ava nodded and pointed to the staircase. Evan already knew where his mother was. Ava just watched as Evan made his way up the staircase.
His father wasn't home. That's how it always was when they were younger. It was just the three of them. Ava, him, and their mother.
"Evan...." his mother wept seeing the sight of him at the foot of her bedroom door. She was sitting on her ottoman looking out into the window. Her face looked lifeless and her eyes looked very heavy as if she was crying all the time.
"Hi mom." He gently said to her, as he went and embraced his mother. He could feel her tears fall down her eyes as his shirt was getting wet. "I got your call. What happened?" He asked sitting on the ottoman facing her. He could see the pain in her eyes and the dark circles. He knew she wasn't sleeping well.
"Your father...." she cried. "Your father, is going to marry Ava off once she turns 18! He didn't even consult me or even consider Ava's feelings! It hurts that I can't do anything." Evan became angry. It was the same thing his father did when he turned 18 three months ago. "He signed the contract with Vice Mayor Solis. It wouldn't been fine if it was Brandon she was going to marry, but it's Michael that she's going to marry." His mother continued weeping.
"You mean Michael Solis, the one who's dating Ate Cora. What the hell was dad thinking?! You know how much Ate Cora hates Ava and our family after what happened to Tita Corazon. If she finds out about this, I'm pretty sure she's going to do anything to hurt Ava." He explained. His jaw clenched at the thought of his father's actions. "I wish I could help mom, but my hands are tied. Karlie is pregnant and I can't just leave her. I wish I could have Ava move in with me and help her finish her studies, but the money I am making is just enough to provide a roof over our head and food on the table."
"I understand, but you can always ask me for money Evan." His mother worried. She hated to see her son struggling.
"It's best if we not have a paper trail. I appreciate your effort mom, but me and Karlie can manage. I promise I'll talk to dad." There was hesitation in her eyes when he said he was going to talk to his father. She knew her son and husband weren't on good terms with each other, so she was worried about how the confrontation would be.
"Dad is slowly becoming like Lolo, heartless and inconsiderate. Though he denies it, it runs in his blood. He isn't aware of the consequences of his actions. I won't be surprised if one day he comes home and no one is here." Evan stated. He was quite different from his father. Elena was glad that both her children didn't inherit her husband's personality.
