Stupid me for not driving a car over to my friend's house. Stupid me forgetting to charge my phone before I left. Stupid me for walking home at 8 o'clock at night in pitch dark by myself. Oh, how I wish I could just kick myself in the head right now.
I never think. I'm the type of girl that shoots first questions later. Especially if I don't question myself. My confidence level and self love is scarcely low. You can always call me a smart cookie. I probably should be in college by now if it weren't for my 2 friends, Scott and Stiles. We were sophomores and they were the only thing closes I had left of family.
My name is Alexis Carson. My friends call me Lexy and even Alex. I live in Beacon Hills, California. I went to Beacon Hills High School. My parents were never around. They died when I was 9 years old. According to the cops their death was a house fire with another family. No one survived it but one person. He was a Hale. I was never at the house I was with my older sister and grandmother. Now I'm 15 years old living with my 21 year old sister. We visit my grandmother here and there but not as often as we saw her when we live together.
I remembered when me and Isabella or Bella is what I usually call her, were living with her at the time she would tell us these stories before we went to bed. She tell us that fairy tales and supernatural creatures were true and they lived among us. She said that some are friendly and some are our enemies. Some we're still trying to find their place. They just needed a little help. Bella never believed in those stories. She always said that they were Legends and rumors that went around town. But I always saw this glint in my grandmother's eyes. As if it was a memory she was telling us. She tells it so real so vivid so descriptive there is no way it could be a story in a book. An urban legend that haunted this town. Made-up story that her and her friends came up with or overheard from other people when she was younger. There's something more to this town than people let on. Or possibly people even knew.
A car horn shakes me out of my thoughts. I was getting too close to the road. I went back on the sidewalk and continued my journey toward my house. Isabella told me I had a curfew around 9:30. So I knew I had to be responsible of that. I look at my phone and see a blurry 8:20. I sighed, shut the phone shoving it in my pocket and rub my hands together. It was a cold night and dark. I always drove to my friend Scott's house. I just didn't think I would be at his house this long. I guess I lost track of time.
I kept walking forward paying no attention to the cars that would speed by. But something did catch my eyes. A light flashing in the woods. I look toward the woods and stop. The lights were flashing it was small two bright red lights. Maybe two feet above the ground. It was too short to be a car. I shake my head thinking I'm seeing things. I'm exhausted from all the work and school I've done for the day. My instinct told me to keep walking pay no attention to the lights that were in the woods. But stupid me, I walked in the woods. It started off with a few feet then became yards. A wolf howls to the night startling me.
My breathing started to pick up as the howling continued. Something was out here. It wanted to find me. I just need to go home and stop. Trying to retrace my steps I most likely made it worse. I felt like I was getting further away from the road. I don't remember my way back now.
"Shit." I mutter under my breath. I take out my phone. My battery warning popped up, 5%. I scroll down clicking on Scott's number. I turn around in circles trying to find any sign of life.
"Hello?" Scotts hoarsely voice comes through the phone.
"Oh thank god you picked up." I sighed with relief.
"Lexy?" He questions. Obviously he didn't check caller ID.
"Yeah it's me. Listen," I try to speak but Scott cuts me off.
"Do you know what time it is?" He asked.
"No." I said.
"Almost 11." He yawns.
"Seriously?" I didn't think I'd be this long in the woods. Where did all that time go? It only felt like minutes I was in here and not hours.
"Yeah, so what's wrong?" He yawns again.
"I was on my way home, saw something in the woods and I followed it. I lost it. I don't know where it went."
"Your sanity?" He asked.
"Scott." I warned him. I don't have time for these games. I was shaking from the cold and fear.
"Your lost aren't you?" I could imagine the smirk plastered on his face.
"Maybe."
"Hang on. Stiles and I are on our way. Listen for the road."
"Scott my phone is dying and I think I'm too far into the woods to hear the road. All I hear is a dog non stop howling." I could hear a loud bang. Sounded close to Stiles Jeep.
"Oooh spooky." I could hear stiles voice on the other end of the phone.
"Shut it Stiles. Its freezing and there is a hungry dog waiting for me." I mumble.
"We'll leave your ass out there." Stiles jokes around.
"Stiles." Scott scowls.
"Guys please." I begged. The howling gets louder.
"Is the dog right there? I swear I can hear it clear through the phone." Scott asked.
"I don't know. I can't see anything. Where are you guys?" I squint my eyes looking around but all I could see was pitch dark.
"We are driving on the road alongside the woods. Can you hear us?" Stiles says. Then I saw the red lights again but there was a low growl that was near it.
"I think I found the dog." I back up slowly as the red lights move closer.
"Alexis run. I don't care where you go just run." Scott warns me.
"Ooook." I slowly back up but trip over a branch. I scurry away and don't look back. I could hear Scott and Stiles yelling my name through the phone as I held on tight to it. The howling stopped as I kept running. I could hear the horn of the Jeep. I was getting closer to the road until I hit something hard. So hard it felt like it was a tree. Maybe even stronger than a tree but a rock. I mean I feel like I ran straight into a bolder. In the middle of the woods? I fell to the ground unconscious.
