Chapter 20

A/N: This will probably be a rather short chapter!

S4E1

This morning, Haley and Nathan had gotten married (again). There was a beautiful ceremony and a majority of us were living life through their love. Now? Haley waiting beside me in the hospital to see if her husband was going to live or die. During the reception, Cooper and Rachel had taken their limo and they flipped over a bridge just as Nathan and Haley had gotten there too. Nathan, in hopes of saving them, jumped into the river after them.

"Someone should call Dan..." Lucas said, breaking the air.

He got up to do so and Haley took a tighter grip on my hand. I sighed, "He's gunna get through this, Hales... I know it."

"Promise me something, Tobin.." she started, turning to face me. "Life can just be taken away from us so quickly and we never know what tomorrow will bring. Don't wait..." she said, tears in her eyes

I just nodded my head because I don't really know what she was trying to say. Maybe she meant going after a music career, or even Brooke.

Nathan had woken up, finally. I decided to let Haley have time with him and go call Brooke. She arrived as soon as she could and I met her just as she got off the elevator. We exchanged hugs and I turned to lead her to Haley, but she resisted. I turned to see Lucas and Peyton hugging, so she walked in another direction. I sighed as my eyes followed her away.

"Hey." a voice said, breaking my gaze. Lucas. "Have you talked to Brooke today?"

I nodded, "Yeah. She got here and was able to see you with Peyton." I said, walking away.

Not long after that Nathan was sent home with Haley, Rachel was awake and talking, but Cooper was still non responsive.

I was at home putting some things away when Brooke came in.

"Hey," she smirked, "I went and saw Rachel today."

"Oh yeah? How is she?" I asked, obviously still caring for her on some level.

"She's really worried about Cooper... she said I could stay with her." She said, hinting that should would be leaving. 

I gave her a smile, "Well, you guys are friends now. I don't see why you couldn't."

"Tobin she told me something." she stepped closer, and using her serious tone. "The night of the rain storm she said you guys were together..."

I bit my lip and looked down, "But she also said you stopped... why?"she asked.

I made direct eye-contact with her and with confidence I said, "I didn't have sex with her because my heart wasn't with her. Never has been with anyone else... I wasn't gunna give something of me to someone like that."

She let out a breath and jumped into my arms for a hug. "You are so amazing, Tobin. Don't let anyone make you think or feel different." she said, heading out the door with her bags.

I was at the River Court just running around and taking shots. It was easy to do thinking when no one was around when it was just you and your thoughts. At that moment, every emotion I had inside me hit at once.

Brooke was with Lucas and there wasn't anything that I could do about it.

Keith was gone, and he wasn't going to be coming back.

I was shot and I could have left this world without goodbyes to people I love.

I fell to my knees, feeling the pain in my heart. At first, I thought it was just from all of my emotions but when my breathing started to get weakened I knew what was happening. I gasped for air over and over but I couldn't manage to catch a single breath. Not long after, my vision blurred and I fell to the ground.
