I started my morning off with a different personality... it hadn't even hit noon and I already had a drink in my hand.
"Kinda early for one of those, don't you think?" Brooke sighed, plopping down beside me.
"Dan worked his whole life to get Nathan into the NBA... and now, he is just going to take it away from him on a tv show!" I scoffed, taking another drink. "The worst part of all of this... for a brief moment, Haley thought Nathan actually slept with her."
"But he didn't, okay?" She replied, taking the drink from my hand, "That's whats important... we all know that he didn't really do this."
I nodded and a small grin grew onto my face.
"What?" Brooke questioned.
"It's just... you have been through stuff like this, except you were cheated on and lied to. It amazes me that you were able to still be with me and love me." I smirked.
"You make it easy, I guess." She teased and placed a gentle kiss onto my cheek.
***
I finally found Brooke outside on a bench, "Hey the show is about to start."
"I fired Alex." She said, turning to me. "Are you still going to work with her?"
"Not if it's something that my wife is uncomfortable with..." I sighed, taking a seat next to her.
"Even though you are so excited for this?" She said, beginning to cry.
"Hey, come on, the only thing I want is my wife to not cry!" I scooted closer to her, "Where's this coming from?"
"When we lost the baby..." She started, handing me a stack of papers. Divorce papers. "I was so broken and sad and I didn't know what to do..." She cried, getting up to walk away, "You should go watch the show."
"Brooke..." I sighed, watching her walk away.
***
I walked into the house to see Brooke sitting on the counter after the show.
"How was it?" Brooke sighed, not making eye contact.
"She admitted that it wasn't Nathan... so, I think that it'll all be okay." I said, getting a nod from her. "Look, what do I do here... how do I help you, Brooke?"
"Tell me that no matter what happens, or how hard this gets that you won't leave." She cried.
I sighed and took her into my arms, "I can't."
"What...Why?" She panicked.
"Because," I sighed, placing a hand on her cheek, "We are married, and I love you..."
***E8***
"I just don't see why I need to go!" I scoffed, packing things into a bag, "I'm totally okay with just staying here with my wife and trying for kids over and over... and over again."
"As tempting as that sounds," Brooke winked, "While you're away, the girls are having a weekend of our own. I think we both could use this."
"Yeah, you're probably right." I sighed, giving her a kiss as we left.
***
Apparently, Julian tagged along... We arrived at the campsite and chose to set up our tents right away, and mine was awful. The moment I got it all set up it would fall down and, of course, Nathan was there to tease me for it.
"You've been camping before, haven't you?" He asked.
"Nope! Not at all." I laughed, "Any chance yours is a two man tent?"
-----
We made our way to a zip line, and Chuck was the first to go.
"That was awesome!" He shouted.
"You up, J-Luke!" Skills smiled.
"That's kinda far down." Jamie said, wide-eyed.
I was sensing his nervousness, so I didn't let him go alone.
"I can't do it, I'm way too scared! I'm just gonna go back down the trail." I sighed, getting a look from Nathan.
"I'm gonna go with him, in case he gets lost." Jamie stated.
"Jamie, we've been waiting for this trip for weeks buddy." Nathan pleaded.
"I know, but what if he gets lost?"
"Well, okay then." Nathan sighed, patting Jamie on the head, "I'll see you at the bottom then."
Jamie and I made our way down the trail together.
"Thanks, Jamie." I smirked, taking a deep breath.
"No problem."
-----
Sitting around the campfire was probably the most memorable, especially with the scary stories that scared Chuck.
"Hey, we're all afraid of something." I smirked.
"Not my dad!" Jamie smiled wide, taking a look at his father.
"Alright, it's bed time for the kids." Nathan sighed, and the kids made their way to the tents.
At that time we started talking about other things, and more "adult" stuff... and some how, Alex Dupre came into the conversation.
"I bet she looks good naked though. Doesn't she, Tobes?" Skills teased, hearing about the time that I had shown up to her door when she was undressed.
"Oh, come on now!" I scoffed, "For one, she isn't Brooke. And two, you've seen her movies so you've seen her too!"
"Yeah, that's probably true." Skills nodded in defeat, "But, you and Nate... along with basically the whole school, have seen Brooke!"
Immediately, Nathan and I sent glares to Skills at the mention of their high school sex tape.
"Wait, what?" Julian snickered under his breath.
"On that note, time for bed!" Skills laughed, booking it to his tent.
"I think I'm gonna follow suit!" Julian followed.
Finally, Nate and I were alone and able to have a deep talk... little did I know it would be the talk that I needed.
"So, what was that?" Nathan started, "Back at the zip line, why did you back out?"
"Jamie was nervous... But he worships you and he didn't want to disappoint you by being scared. So, I helped him out a little." I stated, poking at the fire.
"Well, thank you... He probably needed it, and I guess I'll pay more attention."
"You're a good father, Nate... just remember that." I smiled, getting up to go to bed.
"Thanks... and Jamie adores you too. You'll make a good dad someday."
