April 15, 2014

I come into the office, on a normal day with my cup of coffee (black), hair up, black blazer with a navy blue tank top underneath, and gray dress pants.

My life as an FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) agent isn't so bad, but getting here was tough. Becoming the woman I am today wasn't easy either. At 28 years old, I'm already up for a promotion by the Board of Recognition, and that pisses off a lot of the deputies in my department.

Why is a 28 year old woman in thought of getting promoted? Because I have the stamina, I have the ethics, the mindset for this business. I was built for this, and I will do what's right. Besides, getting promoted is a closer step to becoming chief. The youngest recorded chief in this department was 32 years old. My goal is to be chief before that.

I set my coffee on my desk and began to organize for the day. Before I could even sit down, my friends, Faith and Charles came in.

"Eve, clear your desk, we got some gossip for you." Faith twiddled her fingers. Charles came behind her and added, "It's good!"

Faith Owens, she's the silly one of the whole department. No one can take her seriously on a social level, but she is probably one of the smartest people here.

Charles "Charlie" Kennedy, he's the hot guy of the department. We're only friends because me and Faith were the only women who didn't  drool over him when he got hired. Little does the department know, he's secretly a homosexual. He wants to come out, but he's too uncomfortable and scared of judgement. But I always tell him, "Do it when the time is right."

Charles and Faith took a seat "So, we heard that Wyatt has the biggest crush on you, and he's going to ask you out on a date." Faith reacted as if she were a 12 year old girl at a boy band concert.

"Wyatt? Wyatt Henderson? Isn't he like really close with the chief?" I asked in confirmation. "Girl, yes! He's the only Wyatt in this place." Charles said.

"Guys, I'm not in the..." just as I was going to express inner feelings, Wyatt Henderson knocked on my door and slowly entered.

"Good morning, Faith, Charles.." Wyatt looked at me and smiled so big, his cheeks became red. "Genevieve." "Wyatt, you can call me Eve." I chuckled. "What's up?" I continued to sort out my papers, and put files on the shelf. "I wanted to ask you something."

I saw Faith and Charles making gestures and making funny faces behind Wyatt's back. I put my hand over my mouth, trying to hide my laughing, and Wyatt turned around. "Oh yeah...we'll give you two some privacy." Charles put his hands up, and escorted himself and Faith out of my office.

"So, what was your question?" I asked. "I was wondering..." I could tell in his speech and body language, he was nervous. "Would you like to go out for dinner with me some time?" He asked.

"Wyatt, you're a sweet and smart guy." I said. "But I can't, I just don't have the time. I'm a busy woman." It's not that I wasn't attracted to Wyatt, I'm not interested in giving any man my time right now. My love is my job, and I want to keep it that way. "I understand, I'll...just be uh...out there. I'll see you around." He pointed over his shoulder.

Wyatt opened the door, and hit something. "Dammit man!" I heard Charlie yell. I couldn't help but laugh knowing that Charlie and Faith were ease dropping.

Faith and Charlie walked back into my office. "So what happened?" Faith asked. "He asked me out on a date and I said no."

They both dropped their jaws. "Eve, you could've been promoted to lead if you just went on that date. That was your opportunity!" Charlie said. "Do you really think I need a man to make me successful? I don't need him to buy me a steak, to get me promoted."

"Maybe if you gave him some head..." "Get out!" I raised my voice. "Well, if you don't hit it, I'm sure going to try." Charlie said, "Wyatt, come here boy! We need to talk, my friend." Charlie galloped out of my office, leaving me and Faith together.

"I really thought you two would've made a good couple, but it's all your choice, and I'll support you always." Faith hugged me. "Thanks girl." Faith walked out of my office, and I can finally finish organizing my paperwork. I sat down and continued to work.

About an hour and a half later, I was receiving a phone call, and I answered, "This is Genevieve Reynolds, Agent of the FBI, how may I help you?" "Genevieve, come to my office, immediately." It was my chief, Chief Quinn Spencer.

Quinn Spencer was probably the most intimidating man in this entire department. He wasn't the man to mess with. He's about 6 foot 4 inches, 67 years old, and that man has great energy for his age.

I walked to his office, and about 9 other people were in there, two of them being Faith and Charles. "Now that I have everyone, I called you all in because I know you all have the mind for this. I trust you all and I want you to do the FBI proud." He said. "I have chosen you ten for the next case, I assign." He said.

We all remained quiet and waited for further instructions. When waiting, I noticed Justin Richards was in the room.

Justin Richards, he's a competitive man, who wants to get lead, just as bad as me. Being lead was an honor, a great achievement. Me and him were ranked as top leaders in our department, and whoever gets lead, gets bumped to number one.

Chief Spencer looked at me then at Justin, who was on the other side of the room. "Justin, Genevieve, you're my two candidates for lead in the next case I give you. You're aware of this, right?" Justin and I said simultaneously, "Yes."

"But I can only have one lead, and I'm in a deadlock. Mr. Richards, tell me why you think you're a better candidate for lead."

Justin laughed and said, "Well Chief, I'm most definitely the better candidate, because I have the strength, not just physical, but mentally. In this job you need that, and that is something that Ms. Reynolds lacks. She also lacks leadership skills and quality. She is a person who expects others to do the job for her, and we need a leader who does the job and has the energy to do more."

The chief nodded his head then looked at me.

"Chief, before I explain why I am the perfect candidate instead of Mr. Richards, let's discuss the initial question. Your question was 'explain why you're a better candidate for lead'. Your candidate here lacks hearing skills, because he couldn't quite answer his question without throwing out unecessary and unfactual information. So my words to Mr. Richards." I faced Justin and said, "Don't serve dinner without food on the plate."

I turned back to the chief and answered, "I am a better candidate for lead because I have the capability of bringing our team together and bringing justice to crimes and prevent crimes in our neighborhoods. Patience and persistence is such an important factor for this position. Yes, we must get the job done, but we must proceed in a careful way. If you choose me for lead, I won't disappoint you, my team, or our headquarters. I'm not a quitter, but I am an achiever."

The chief nodded his head, and said, "Thank you. I'll let you know tomorrow who lead is. To all of you, be ready, don't dissapoint me. You're dismissed."

We all walked out of his office and went to our owns. "Damn girl." Charlie said putting his arms around my shoulder. "My friend is going to be my boss, how cool is that?" Faith joined us, and said, "We have to wait tomorrow to find out. But we know Eve got it."

Charlie came in between me and Faith and put his arms over both of us. "The three amigos are going to be on a case!" I couldn't help but laugh at Charlies childish talk. "I'm excited. We're going to make this the case of the decade!" I said.
