It was 8:45 pm and I worked overtime until 9 tonight. Why was I working over time? I sure as hell didn't know.
Everyone was gone and I was the only one, and I wasn't going to let anything push me back from doing my research on this case.
While on my computer, I looked at the photos that were sent to me the day the investigation started. I noticed that there were video files, that I was never aware of. That was weird, because no videos were taken or reported. I clicked the video file, but it was locked.
Sorry, this file can not be retrieved from this computer.
Why couldn't I get into the file on my computer? Everyone in the office, had the same computer, what was so different with mine?
I left my office and walked to all of the other offices to check the computers for this specific file. The same problem happened. The file was locked tight for everyone. I had one more office to check, but the door leading inside was locked, and it was an abandoned office. It doesn't officially belong to anyone. I grabbed two bobby pins from my hair and picked the lock open. When I unlocked the door, I opened it and entered office. I turned on the lights and the computer.
When I got into the computer, I found the video file and opened it. Out of all of the computers, why could this be the only computer that has access to this file? So many questions were skating across my mind.
I pressed play, and I watched the clip. It was a surveillance video and I couldn't believe what I saw.
____________________________________I finally drove back to Bruno's house and I'm glad he was still awake. "Hey, how was work?" He asked as I walked in. "Well, um." I didn't want to cry in front of him. I hated crying in front of people in general. "I lost my position. I lost my promotion, and uh, I lost my spot on the murder case." I said to him. "Oh my God. Eve, I'm so sorry." He put his hand on my shoulder.
"You need to report to the headquarters tomorrow morning at 9. The new lead wants more answers." I explained. "Okay." Bruno nodded his head.
Bruno can see that I was falling apart. Mentally, I was breaking, piece by piece. Bruno pulled me in closer to him, knowing I was going to explode. "Nothing is working out for me." I cried in his chest. He rubbed and patted my back wanting me to feel better. "Let me draw you a bath. You need to relax." Bruno walked me to the master suite and set a bath for me.
As I watched Bruno set my tub, I just stood there, clueless. "Well, are you going to get ready?" He asked. I did was look at him and I reached for his hand, and all Bruno said was, "Okay."
Bruno undressed me, and I undressed him. I automatically covered my breast when he took my bra off. He took my hands, and slowly moved them down.
Bruno stepped in the bathtub first, and I followed. He wrapped his arms around me and I rested my head on his soothing chest. It was very quiet and this is exactly what I wanted. All I could hear were the soft ripples of the water.
"I don't know what I'm going to do." I said while looking at the ceiling. "I've hit rock bottom." I added. Bruno tightened his embrace and said, "Don't think that when you hit rock bottom, you've been destroyed. Rock bottom is just a chance for you to start over. It's not how you got to there, but it's how you're going to get out." Bruno softly said.
"I'll give you an example. I was once signed to Motown Records. I was an official member of one of best record companies in the world. I told my parents, siblings, and friends. Then one day, they decided to drop me. That was one of the worst things that happened to me at the time. But, I didn't move to California to give up. I kept trying and trying and trying. Then I got picked up by my current record label. Blessings come when you least expect it." Bruno added.
I felt some sense of motivation when Bruno told me that story. I turned my head and kissed him. "You always make me feel better." I whispered. "I'm glad I do."
After bathing, we dried off, and laid in the bed. I had my arm and leg wrapped around Bruno as if we were a couple. "I could probably lose my job for being here with you." I said. "What? Why?" Bruno asked. "Employees are to not mess with evidence. A witness is a source of evidence." I said. "I get that, but nothing is going to stop me from me feeling the way I do about you." Bruno played with my hair. "We need to keep it private. Private as possible." I said. Bruno kissed the tip of my nose. "Privacy is what I live for."
