I wake up, not dying to get out of bed, but I wake up to a new person. I felt like I was reborn, but in the same world. But even with this feeling, I knew there was a problem.
By looking at the lighting from the room, it didn't feel like 6 in the morning. I checked the clock. It was 9:50 am. I'm almost two hours late for work.
I practically jumped out of bed, and started looking for my clothes in a rush. "Where's my shoes? Where's my pants? Oh God." I panicked.
Bruno walked into the room, "What's wrong?" He asked. "I'm late for work. Very late." I was rushing and panicking so much, I could pass out. "Why didn't you wake me?" I asked while still looking for my things. "You were sleeping so peacefully, I didn't want to wake you."
Once I put on my clothes, Bruno followed me to the door. "Will you come back?" He asked. "I don't know. I really don't." I answered. Bruno looked sad, believing that I was going to leave him. I kissed his cheek, and said, "I'll see you soon. I promise." I rushed out of the house and drove to work
____________________________________I rushed into the office and just as I passed the Chiefs office, he called me in, and he didn't seem too happy. "Where the hell have you been? You were supposed to report in two hours ago." I tried to explain to the chief that I overslept, but he didn't want to hear my excuses.
"Your behavior here Genevieve is pretty shabby, and I don't do shabby. I've pushed back your position as leader from the LA murder case. Your new leader is Justin. You will treat him like your leader, and you follow all of his directions." Chief Spencer explained. "But Chief..." "Genevieve, I'm sorry, but you weren't handling your business, like a leader should.." He continued to do paper work and said, "You're dismissmed."
I was speechless. I felt more vulnerable than before. This case...this case was mine. I had it under my wing, but I let it fly away. Bruno, I let him in too soon, and I don't see us being together. My family is so difficult, it was inutile to even contact them, and spill my problems.
I sat in my office, practically on the verge of crying. This day was getting worse.
"I heard you lost your place." Justin walked in my office. "I'm sure you're happy." I said. "Well, no, I'm not. In fact, you really deserved that spot, but chief really thought it was for the best." I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "What do you want anyways?" I asked. "Well, Chief wanted me to tell you, to leave everything involving the case alone." Justin softly said.
That was practically impossible. "I'm on the team. I have the right." I said. "Oh, chief didn't break it to you fully huh?" Justin put his hands on his pockets. "You're not on my team anymore."
This was absolutely ridiculous. "He can't just do that! You need ten people on a team. Not nine. What in the hell?" I grew angry. "Genevieve, Im sorry, it's just protocol." Justin frowned. "Oh, and we're going to need Mr. Peter Hernandez in tomorrow, for more questioning. He goes by Bruno. I'm sure you know that." Justin said. "What else do you need to know? I already got that information." I waved my hands. "Well, your information isn't relevant, since you're not lead anymore. Call him tonight, and tell him, that he needs to report here tomorrow at 9 am." Justin pointed at me. "And that will be the last task I will ask you for. Have a good day Ms. Reynolds." Justin walked out of my office. I felt so sick to my stomach. I wanted to throw up. I felt like a failure.
"Oh and Genevieve, no hard feelings?" Justin asked. "No hard feelings." Although me and Justin didn't see eye to eye, I appreciated him showing some sense of sympathy for me. He knows how it feels to lose a position like this. "Let me give you a hug." Justin walked over to me, and wrapped his arms around me. "They'll be more cases, and you'll be the best lead there is." He smiled. "Thanks Justin." I said.
