Chapter One

Audrey couldn't believe that there was nothing the police could do, other than tell her to stay somewhere else for a day or two. Well, she was going to stay somewhere else alright, but she wasn't going for just a day or two. Audrey looked around her almost bare apartment and sighed, maybe this was for the best.

The city had become too crowded for Audrey, and she needed time to recover from not only the loss of her mother but to hopefully get rid of the stalker she'd somehow gained. She couldn't figure out who would go to such length's to get her attention, but they'd succeeded. She wasn't alarmed at first when she began to receive a letter or poem every week, she hadn't become alarmed when she began finding roses laid out in front of her door when she was going to work in the morning.

No, none of that had scared her. She assumed it was someone she knew, maybe they were pulling a prank of some kind. However, the prank she was so sure someone was playing on her had gotten out of hand.

Not only did she continue to receive the letters and poems, the roses outside her door, but now the person had begun knocking several times on her door through the night, into the morning. At first, Audrey hadn't linked the two. It wasn't until she found a small package. She'd grabbed it up, shut her door and walked to the table to sit and open the mysterious box. What she'd found inside made her blood run cold, fear nipping its way through her stomach.

Inside were pictures, but not just random pictures. Pictures of her walking to the store, walking into her apartment, but the most chilling was the one of her sleeping in her bed. She decided then, that she'd call the cops and tell them what she knew. Unfortunately, the person in question hadn't threatened her and she had nothing other then what he'd sent her to go by. It wasn't enough for the police to do anything, so she decided the best thing she could do was move.

Boxing the last of her things, she smiled. She would miss her apartment, but it was time to move on. Time to get her life back together, before it got so out of hand she was no longer in control of anything. "Auddy!" Audrey jerked when she heard her friend, Karla practically shouted her name.

"What? Did you say something?" Audrey sighed when she watched Karla throw her hands up in the air in frustration. "Sorry, I was thinking about something."

"You've been doing this a lot. I was asking if you were sure about this? You could come stay with me and Dan. We'd love to have you and know we have the room." Her friend said, her lower lip sticking out ever so slightly in a pout.

Audrey's shoulder's sagged. "You know I wouldn't do that. I will be just fine in my mother's Cabin and believe it or not, I actually miss the place. It will be nice to go back out there." Audrey cut off her friends coming protest, "you know that I can take care of myself. I will be fine and I will be sure to call you when I've settled in."

Audrey knew her friend wasn't convinced, but Audrey wasn't changing her mind. "But, whose to say this psycho won't follow you? I mean obviously, the police are worthless in this case. I still can't believe they won't do anything about this guy." Karla folded her arms, her eyes furrowed with agitation as she thought about the police visit they'd had.

Audrey picked up the box she'd just taped shut and sighed, "Karla you know that they can't do anything about someone who's practically a ghost. I mean, what exactly do you want them to do?" She tried to be reasonable and thought that she'd done just that. But, she couldn't help the feeling of unease as it nearly choked her.

What if the person who'd been stalking her for the past two month's did follow her? Where she was going, there wasn't much of a civilization. It was pretty rough terrain, woodsy and just a handful of cabins next to one another. "Besides, there isn't anything interesting about me, so I'm still confused how or why this person is following me or taking interest in me, to begin with." Audrey let out a sudden yelp when she received a solid smack upside the head.

"Wha-," Audrey turned seeing Karla frowning, a frown claiming her own face. "What the hell was that for?" She asked as she rubbed her head.

Karla picked up a box and followed Audrey out of the apartment. "You was talking bad about yourself. You're very beautiful, smart, spunky and women would kill for your legs. It doesn't surprise me that you now have a stalker."

Audrey had to control herself so that she didn't laugh at her ridiculous friend. Karla made it sound like having a stalker was a flattering thing. Audrey felt anything but flattered. "Yeah, yeah if you say so." She muttered as she put her box in the back of her Chevrolet Silverado, immediately turning to take the last box from Karla and set it down inside the bed as well. "That was the last of it," Audrey grunted when her friend unexpectedly threw herself into her arms.

"I'm going to miss you so much Auddy... Make sure you call me when you get there and then after your settled. Don't forget to eat and to lock your door. Just, make sure to call me if anything happens!" Karla rushed out through silent tears.

Audrey couldn't help but smile. Karla was a dear friend, one of the best. "It's not like I'm moving out of the country Karla. I'll see you in a few days after I've settled into the cabin."

After sharing the hug for another minute Karla finally got control of herself and pulled away, wiping at her eyes. "I know, I know. I'm just- I don't want you to move. I really wish you would think about mo-"

Audrey held her hand up and shook her head, smiling to soften her refusal. "Thank you for your offer, really, but I can't take it. I will be perfectly fine and I promise I will call you regularly and we can have lunch in a few days, okay?"

Audrey smiled when Karla nodded and dug into her pockets for her truck keys. "Alright, give me one more hug and then I have to go." They shared another hug and said their goodbyes as Audrey got into the truck and drove away from the curb. It was a start of a new beginning for her, Audrey thought as she left the city limits. She still had a good five-hour drive or more till she reached the cabin, but the view along the way would keep her pretty occupied. Audrey couldn't help, but take a cautious glance in her rearview mirror, then laughed at the action. "Get ahold of yourself, Audrey. No one is going to follow you.."
