Chapter Thirty

Audrey ran through the woods, fear making it's way through her as she listened to the sounds of the night and what the night brought out. Monsters disguised as humans. She stopped for a moment, leaning heavily against a tree as she tried her best to catch her breath. When a howl rang through the night she pushed off from the tree and began running once again this time not stopping until she was suddenly tackled from behind, nearly sending her into the lake in front of her. Audrey screamed, turning on her back to fight off whatever had tackled her, but when she turned nothing was there.

Deciding not to lay there and wait for whatever it was to come back, she stood and was ready to run again when she hit something, sending herself back to the ground. Looking up quickly, she nearly sighed in relief when she saw Roan. The relief was soon washed away as new fear took hold. Roan looked like Roan, but didn't. His eyes glowed red, his teeth...were longer, sharper.

"R-Roan?" Audrey whispered, slowly getting to her feet. Her every fiber wanted to run, but apart of her wanted to stay. A sudden sound of leaves rustling behind her drew her attention. Turning her back to Roan she gaped as she watched a half shifted Raven walked towards her.

"Audrey.." He whispered, holding his hand out.

Audrey." She heard Roan say and turned to see his hand also stretched out for her hand.

She looked between them, a moment of confusion taking hold before she looked up and gasped. The moon was much larger than she'd ever seen it.

"Just like me."  Raven growled suddenly.

Audrey tried to figure out what he meant by that, but an unbearable and unexplainable pain shot through her body. Crouching and holding her stomach, Audrey tried to breath through the pain only to fail and scream out her agony.

Audrey sprang up from her bed, panting heavily and slightly sweating as she looked around her bedroom wildly. She moved her hands over her body, not feeling anything out of the ordinary she fell back to her bed, her eyes wide as she stared at her ceiling. "Just a dream... just a dream..." She assured herself, swallowing hard. She grimaced when she tried make sense of the dream. It wasn't surprising that she would have such a horrific dream. She had been through a lot of stuff and tonight she would learn whether she was a vampire or a werewolf...

"Vampire or Werewolf.." She muttered, apart of her still trying to accept everything. "This isn't real, this isn't real. I'm going to wake up any second and this is going to be a dream.."

"It isn't a dream.." The light whisper had Audrey jumping from her bed, nearly doing a face plant and screaming as she whirled to see Drake standing at the side of her bed.

"W-what are you doing here?!" Audrey demanded, holding her hand out as if it would do anything to stop him.

Drake held his hands up, showing he meant no harm. "I came to check on you. It's getting late."

Audrey took a peek at her window and noticed that the sun had begun to set. Her heart raced at the meaning. "I don't want to do this Drake.. I don't want to be a vampire or a werewolf!"

Drake's shoulders sagged slightly, he felt for Audrey. Had Roan been given the time that he needed it may not have turned out this way. Audrey would have most likely fallen so hard for Roan that she wouldn't have thought to deny being changed, but it didn't work out that way. Audrey was changed, into what, he didn't know... "Audrey, you'll be fine. No matter what, we'll be here for you to help you every step of the way.."

Audrey shook her head, all of the things Raven had told her going through her. "What if I turn into an animal?" Audrey sat down on the floor, having no fight left. "I'm scared Drake..."

Drake moved closer, crouching in front. He hoped Roan would wait outside like they'd discussed, but he wouldn't really blame him if he barged in. His mate would always come above all and she was clearly distressed. It would take a lot of control to stand still.

"So what if you turn into a wolf, we're here for you so there isn't a reason to be afraid."

Audrey sniffled, afraid that he was lying. "Raven told me that vampires hate wolves... That if I were to be a wolf, Roan would hate me and would..." Audrey bit her lip, unable to say it without bursting into full blown tears.

"And would, what?" Drake prompted.

Audrey looked up to a confused and curious looking Drake. "That Roan would kill me.."

Drake eyes widened at the confession and was about to assure her that, that would never happen, but didn't have the chance when the bedroom door was suddenly swung open roughly, the door knob smacked into the wall behind and Roan strolled forward with purpose. Drake turned back towards Audrey to see her eyes wide and a slight fear in them. His sympathy rose for her because, whether she knew it or not she was stuck with him forever the poor dear. "I shall take my leave now."

"Raven told you that I would kill you for becoming a wolf and you believed him?" Roan demanded, it was hard for him to keep his disbelief or his anger from showing. He had told her she was his mate, yet she believed he would kill her? Maybe he hadn't explained it well enough.

Audrey had no words. The first look she got of him, she saw the monster in her dreams. It was ridiculous because she was awake and she knew this Roan wouldn't hurt her...or at least that is what she wanted to believe.

How could she know though. A week ago she never believed there were werewolves and vampires and then suddenly she is kidnapped by a werewolf, learns that her boyfriend is a vampire and was bit by both a vampire and a werewolf....

"How am I supposed to know what to believe Roan?" She stood from the floor, suddenly becoming angry. "You are a vampire! A VAMPIRE! I'm a human or I was until recently. At this moment, I have no clue what I'm going to be and that isn't something I can just accept without feeling any confusion or fear. Damn it! I'm so tired of being afraid, tired of not knowing what to do in my life and feeling so lost. I thought things were looking up for me when I met you..."

"I finally found someone who listened to me, who cared about what I was going through.." Audrey squeaked when Roan's arms suddenly surrounded her, but she couldn't fight the urge to lay her cheek against his chest. "I don't know what to do Roan.."

"You just need to trust me. I haven't changed. I'm still the same man you've come to know, I'm still me. I wouldn't harm you, if what Raven said was true I wouldn't have even tried to change you myself, but would have killed you right after I'd taken care of Raven. You are my mate Audrey, no matter what you will remain my mate." Roan rubbed down Audreys back, calming considerably. "I love you Audrey.."

Audrey's eyes widened. Those four words bringing back a memory. She had heard him say that before while she was asleep, but she was sure that was just her imagination. Closing her eyes, she wrapped her arms tightly around him. "Even if I become hairy?"

Roan chuckled, "even then.."
