Chapter 22: Old Rival

Nagisa's POV

Today, I went out to the library.

I wanted to borrow some science books from the library to study more. Midterms are coming, after all...

I went in the library.

It was quiet, as what you would expect from a library. People were reading books, using the computer, or simply just browsing through the shelves to see if anything catches their eye.

I walked to the books used for studying. They had a lot of them, all of them were stacking high up on the shelves.

I looked for the one I needed, the 10th grader science book.

"Ah, there it is." I looked at the book on the shelf.

I took the book and started looking at it. This was Okuda-san's recommendation, so I'm sure it's a good one.

I looked over to the math section. "Might as well take a look..."

I looked over to the shelves. Trigonometry, geometry, algebra...

Just looking at it makes me...

I noticed a boy around my age standing. He was a bit taller than me, and he was reading a math book. He had strawberry blonde hair.

Ah.

That's no stranger.

That's Asano-kun.

I peered over at his shoulder. He was reading an 11th grade level math book.

Figures.

"Asano-kun. Long time no see." I started in a low voice.

He jumped a bit before turning his head back. He looked at me, "Shiota-san. What a surprise." He continued reading the book.

"Are you going to borrow that?" I asked.

"Yeah. It's always good to study ahead of the material." He replied. "I suppose this is good."

He turned his head at me and said, "What are you doing here?"

"Well, the same reason as you, I suppose." I told him. "It's less than two weeks from midterms, after all."

"I see."

He started walking to the librarian. I followed not too long.

We both borrowed our books.

After he took the book from the librarian, he said, "Would you like to chat?"

I also took my book from the librarian. "You want to talk to me?" I asked.

He turned his body and walked towards the door, "A good ruler always interacts with his subjects."

I looked at him, then smiled. "His pride really hasn't changed at all..."

"How about some coffee?" He looked back at me. "I have some time to waste."

"Sure." I walked with him.

-At the coffee shop-

I took a sip of my coffee, then putting it down on the table. "How are things doing?" I asked.

"Fine." He rested his head on top of his hand. "Everything is the same. The same school with the same number of lowlifes."

I sweat dropped. "I guess you're still on top?"

"Of course. A king is always on top." He answered with a grin.

"Is there anything you want to achieve right now?" I asked, feeling a need to start up a subject.
