The first thing I did when I woke up was check my phone.

4 missed calls from Poppy
2 voicemails from Poppy
Poppy: Laurel please answer me
Poppy: please I'm begging you
Poppy: i know you're pissed and that I should've trusted you but I need you more than ever right now
Poppy: fine. I guess you're not gonna answer
Poppy: goodbye

I began to worry about her after reading those. I tried texting her and calling her but she wasn't answering. Thoughts began to fill my mind. There were endless possibilities. I threw on a sweatshirt and shorts then ran down the stairs. Brendon was sitting on the couch when I got down there. He looked over at me and smiled.
"Hey La-" he began to say before seeing the expression on my face.
"What's wrong?" He asked rushing over to me.
"Brendon I need you to drive me to Poppy's house. Something's wrong." I said.
"What? What's wrong?" He questioned.
"I don't know. She was calling me last night and texting me saying how she needed me and that she was sorry. Then she ended it with goodbye and I'm worried sick about her. Her parents are out of town right now too. Please take me to her house we have to check on her." I explained.
"Okay. Alright um.. I'm gonna leave a note for Sarah then we can go." He said with a shaky voice.
I nodded my head in agreement. I was pacing around, waiting for Brendon to finish the note.
"Alright let's go." He said.
We headed out of the door and towards the car. Brendon started it up and quickly backed out of the driveway. Before I knew it, we were at her house. I hopped out of the car and knocked on her door.
"Poppy?" I asked through the door
"Poppy!" I shouted again a minute later.
"Dad she isn't coming and the door's locked." I said.
"Okay okay just... wait do you have one of those squiggly hair things to pin your hair up with?" He asked.
"A... bobby pin?" I asked hesitantly.
"Yeah yeah whatever." He said.
"Well yeah b-" I started saying before he cut me off.
"Give." He interrupted.
I took the bobby pin out and handed it to him. He put it into the knob and began moving it around. Surprisingly, the door unlocked.
"Since when do you know how to pick a lock?" I questioned.
"No time for questions let's just find her." He answered.
I shrugged and followed him inside. He went downstairs to try and find her while I went upstairs. I first looked in her bedroom. Nope, not there. After checking her bedroom, I went to the bathroom. The door was shut and there was a light on. Bingo. I opened the door and what I saw next was shocking. Tears began forming in my eyes as I saw her laying on the ground, lifeless, with cuts on her wrists and blood seeping out of them. Her breath was shallow but she was still breathing at least. My hand went over my mouth and my breath began shaking.
"B-Brendon! I-I found h-her! Help!" I yelled.
He rushed up the stairs and pushed the door open further.
"You found her? Grea-" he started saying before seeing her body.
"We have to call 911 now." He demanded.
I put in the number in on my phone and told them everything.
"They'll be here in 10 minutes." I informed Brendon.
"Okay until then we gotta make sure she's still breathing. Maybe we can bandage up her cuts or something." He said, trying to remain calm.
"Alright." I responded.
I began frantically looking through the bathroom cupboards for gauze and medical tape. Luckily, I found them. Brendon went downstairs to get a cold cloth for her head. While he did that, I began wrapping the gauze around her wrists. After wrapping it around 4 or 5 times, I cut it and put medical tape on to keep it together. It wasn't the best bandage you'll ever see but hey, it was something. I put my hand on her heart to make sure that she was still breathing. Thank God she was. Brendon rushed back up and put the cloth on her. I don't know what else we could do but wait until the ambulance arrives. We sat there in pure silence until I went up to Brendon and hugged him.
"Thank you." I mumbled into his chest.
"Anytime kid." He replied.
"Dad?" I questioned, looking into his eyes.
"Yeah?" He asked.
"Do you think that if we wouldn't have gotten here sooner, she could've been... dead?" I asked again, this time with tears falling down my cheeks.
"As much as I would love to say no, the answer is yes." He replied.
"Oh my God." I remarked, hugging him even tighter.
After hugging for about 5 minutes, the ambulance came. They took her body out on a stretcher and we followed the vehicle to the
hospital.

We sat in the waiting room for what felt like hours until the doctor said that we could come in. I walked into the room. Poppy had all kinds of bandages on her and wires hooked up to her. She didn't look too great but I knew that she was going to get better. Sarah got a babysitter for Larissa and met us at the hospital. We sat there and waited for her to wake up until suddenly we saw her shifting.
"I think she's waking up." I said quietly.
Her eyes fluttered open and she examined the room.
"Am I dead?" She asked.
I laughed a little and walked over to her bedside.
"Nope. Thanks to me." I answered.
She laughed a little.
"So we're cool?" She questioned.
"We better be. I just saved your life!" I joked.
She giggled again. It felt good to be talking to Poppy again.
"Thanks. Seriously. I don't know what I was thinking when I did that. Something inside me just snapped." She explained.
"It's okay. Just promise me you won't do anything stupid like that ever again?" I asked.
"I promise." She agreed.

I nodded my head and smiled. Thank God we saved her.
