something was magical about the kiss. both of us, drenched in water, surrounded by paper lanterns floating around us, their lights dancing against the pools waters.
no one had seen, but i didn't care. it was our moment, our little secret. everyone was too entranced in the sky, bright with the glow of lanterns. i was only entranced in him.
him, with his smile lines, the look of fondness he gets whenever he looks at me, how his jaw jumps whenever he gets angry or sad, how he doesn't have a six-pack like everyone else, but i never cared about that sort of thing.
he has a little bit of tummy, that always pokes out a bit through his t-shirts. whenever i mentioned it, he always blushed and he hated that small bit, but i loved it.
his lips feel so soft, tasting of barbecue sauce and the vanilla ice cream from the festivities. i smile, my lips still so so close to his, even as we're broken apart, almost breathless.
he's so beautiful, his green eyes illuminated against the golden glow of the lanterns, his whole body glowing and his face beaming. his teeth aren't perfect, but that doesn't matter to me either.
his friends call out his name to play football, and he takes his hands away from me, looking almost annoyed to leave, but i didn't want to hold him back.
i motion for him to go, and he smiles, stepping out of the pool and joining his friends, who look back to me in confusion.
i overhear one of them ask him if we're together, and he responds with a yes, and my head feels light, and my heart does a thousand somersaults a second.
i feel my friends staring from behind, and i look back at them, watching me in the pool. they raise their eyebrows and point to him, and i flash them a thumbs up, and they jump in the pool to hug me.
i look up at the sky, as all of the lanterns float away into the starry night sky, the air thick with the scent of a barbecue and the sounds of laughter and squeals fill the air. i'll never forget this night, this'll be the night to tell my grandkids.
i laugh in pure happiness, and i look to my mothers star in the sky, mouthing a silent "thank you" to her, and my smile grows wider.
its a bit short, but i actually really like it. have a good week everyone, if you have exams or any specialised test like that, good luck, stay calm, it'll be over very very soon.
