A glimpse of movement from the window catches Alessia's attention. She walks towards her window, pushing aside the white curtain. She frowns when she realises that it was just Rachel and Connor, their lips interlocked and hands in each other's back pockets. They pull away, and she quickly moves away from the curtain, so she won't be seen.
Soon after, she hears small voices chatting outside, then his front door shuts with a dull thunk. After a few minutes, a beep emits from her phone. When Alessia checks it, a small smile grows on her face. It's a text from Connor, asking her to come over. She sends back a yes, and walks down the stairs, and exits her home to the bitter cold, her breath forms clouds in the air. She knocks a few times on his door.
As Alessia waits, she rubs her hands on her bare arms, regretting not grabbing a jacket on the way out. The door opens, and Connor stands there, his eyes brightening as he lays eyes on her.
"Hey, come in, it's freezing." He says, with a small laugh. She smiles, and enters into his warm house.
"Come on, I'll take you up to my room." He whispers, grabbing her hand. The simple touch causes a small flutter in her stomach.
"It's a bit messy, but it's not terrible." He admits, and opens the door to his bedroom.
It looks like a reversed version of her room, only his is painted a dark blue. She reluctantly sits at the foot of his bed, sinking into his mattress.
"So, why'd you have me here?" Alessia asks, looking around his room.
"We haven't hung out in a while. I figured we could catch up."
"Okay, so, how's your relationship?" It's the last question she would ask about, but his eyes brighten.
"It's great, actually! We're about to celebrate our two-year anniversary tomorrow, and I have something big planned. I was planning to..." And he launches into detail about a big date with Rachel, with a candlelit dinner and a drive-in movie, and then to lay on a blanket under the stars. "I know it's really cliché, but I think it can be successful."
"That sounds beautiful, she's a lucky gal to have someone like you." Alessia says, nudging him with her foot.
"Oh! Do you want to see the present I got her?" He asks, preparing to go get it. She nods, and he dashes over to his nightstand, pulling out a rectangular velvet box. He opens it, and she gasps at the sight.
Inside the box lay a ruby necklace, and it had her name engraved in a gold border around it.
"Well, what do you think? Do you think she'll like it?" He asks, his eyes hopeful.
She merely nods, and for her, it's hard to hold a smile. She gazes at the necklace in awe, and she's snapped out of her mesmerisation by him closing the box, noting her mood change.
"Hey, is everything alright? You don't seem like yourself." Connor asks, placing the box back in the nightstand.
"What do you mean?" She asks quickly, and he gives her a pointed look.
"Really? We've known each other since birth. Literally. I think I can tell when my best friend is upset about something."
She hesitates, and looks down, fiddling with her fingers.
Connor kneels in front of her, taking her face into his hands.
"You can tell me, you know. You don't have to hide in front of me." When she looks into his eyes, they're filled with compassion and comfort.
The tension inside of her breaks, and all hesitation flies into the wind. She leans a little closer to Connors face, placing one of her small hands on the back of his neck. His skin felt soft, like velvet. His eyelids flutter, breathing in harshly, pleasured by the soft touch.
