i sit with a photo of us in my hand, lauren's eyes glittering and my eyes fond as i gaze at her. i don't want her to go. i never wanted her to go. but i can't stop her family's job. i'm only mad at myself, for never doing anything or confessing my feelings for her.
no. i can't let her leave yet. i quickly stand, my dog peeking through the door in curiosity.

i race to her house, and the "For Sale" sign is stark against the crisp green grass. there isn't a car in sight, and i look through the window of the house.
it's completely empty.
i feel my heart shatter, and i remember that her flight isn't until two.
i check the time: 1:22 P.M. i can still make it.
i hail a taxi, and i tell him to go to the airport, chucking about $75 in his direction, hoping it's enough. my heart drums in my chest, the photo i have pressing against my leg.

it's a twenty minute drive to the airport, and i bolt out of the car before he comes to a full stop. i dash past security, and i look around frantically for any sign of lauren.
i hear security guards telling me to come back, but i know they don't give two shits about what i do.
i check the time again. 1:44. i need to find her.
i look around the large waiting area, and i see her face, her beautiful, delicate face. lauren looks up from her phone, and we make eye contact for one second, her eyes widening. i dash over to her, and she stands, taking long strides over to me.
"phil? w-what're you-" i interrupt her by kissing her, right in the middle of the airport, and she kisses me back, her hands clasping behind my neck.
we break apart for one second, and we touch foreheads. i breathe out, "i love you, lauren."
her eyes brighten, as she whispers back, "i love you, too."
"2:00 Flight to Worcester, New York, please board now."
tears fill her eyes, spilling onto her freckled cheeks. i gently wipe the tears away, holding back my own.
"i don't want to say goodbye to you." she chokes, and it pains me.
"you're not going to say goodbye. well still have holidays, and we'll still be able to visit each other, and we have every form of social media, video chat, to see each other on. so, i'll see you later lauren, i love you, okay?" i ask, giving her a small, reassuring smile.
"i'll see you later, phil. i love you too." she smiles back, and she and her family rush to the terminal.
i give one last wave to her back, the tears slowly coming alive in my eyes.
i finally got her.
