Peer Pressure

Peer pressure isn't something that's just cliché,
It's not them forcing and you saying 'okay'
Most of the time you don't even know,
So it's not as easy to say a straight out 'NO'

People start to blame you, saying it's all your fault,
But you didn't even think of it, it wasn't worth a thought
What really angers me is the fact that they can't see,
That it's not all on my head, it's not about me

Peer pressure is a cage filled with your loved ones,
To escape it you must betray, no matter what comes
If you want to survive and explore the free land,
You have to leave behind, even if they don't understand

It's a horrifying feeling to leave behind a friend,
Knowing that it wasn't them yet this has to be the end
Peer pressure is around you, you can feel it in the air,
But once it starts to drape you in, all I'll say is beware

Peer pressure isn't about passing the blame,
It's not about the tears, lies or shame
It's just a prison that starts to morph you,
To your own personality, you have to stay true

Once it takes over, there's no looking back,
You're changing day by day, you true self you lack
But don't go trying to detach yourself from them,
After all that you've been through, they're still your friends

Escape the prison, but don't lock them inside,
Soon you'll find your freedom, you'll no longer have to hide
They will come right back to you, but now you really know,
That peer pressure isn't what everybody thinks, you can't stop with a single 'NO'.
