*** Okay gang, there a few things I would like to say before I continue. First off, this is a rare occurence! When was the last time I updated this story two days in a row?! Lucky for y'all, I did not have school today! Second of all, I would like to place an informal warning that sexual content is approaching soon. I will give the formal warning in the authors note of the chapter that contains the... sexual content haha! In any case, it's coming. Y'all better be ready for it. Third of all, if you have not heart or noticed- I made a book trailer!! It isn't an academy award winner or anything like that, but I'm proud of it! It's posted on this chapter. Happy reading! xoxox***
It took Lennox a good three hours to completely wind herself down from the day's events. It was very troubling for her to have gone from one emotional extreme to the opposite. In less than thirty minutes she had been given the greatest news of her life, and then had her heart ripped out by the worst letter anyone had ever written. She was aware that Dumbledore knew every aspect of her life, as did Severus, but she was very keen to keep the truth from her siblings. When Dumbledore escorted Max from his office, Lennox knew what he was going to tell her brother. It wasn't fair to leave Max in the dark as to why she had been so upset.
“How are you feeling?” Severus asked quietly, walking towards her with a hot cup of tea. She stared at the ceiling of his private quarters, back straightened out on the sofa in front of the fireplace. She sat up, allowing him to sit back down. She rested her head in his lap, not taking her eyes off the ceiling. He set her tea down on the table to cool down for a minute or two.
“Perpetually confused with my life.” she mused, keeping her blank expression. He watched the rise and fall of her chest as she breathed evenly, lifting a hand to stroke her hair lovingly. He looked down at her, a half smile of sympathy forming on his lips. Her eyes shifted from the ceiling to his face, and the two made silent eye contact for an entire minute without speaking.
“I never got to thank you for the ring.” a smile finally broke through her pursed lips. He ran his thumb over her cheek gently, slouching down into the cushions to make himself more comfortable.
“Well I may be an old git but I do like to do things properly.” he chuckled. She got up, curling her legs underneath her as she leaned into his body. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, and she rested her head on his chest.
“You're not old.” she said, closing her eyes to listen to the beating of his heart. The softness and even pace of it could halve lulled her to sleep, but the deep rumble of his voice inside his chest was loud enough to keep her awake.
“I love how you didn't comment on the 'git' part of that statement.” he stated, causing her to giggle.
“Well it isn't any secret that you can, at times, be a right foul git. Not to me, but to others. Not that you haven't been a git to me- because you most certainly have... but you've severely cut down.” she looked up at him, placing a small kiss on his jawline, placing her head back on his chest. He shifted in his seat, feeling a sharp pain below his shoulder blade. He winced, letting out the faintest of gasps. This did not go unnoticed by Lennox who immediately sat up straight, looking at him with questioning eyes.
“What just happened?” she narrowed her eyes at him as he attempted to sit still.
“Nothing. It was nothing.” he lied, voice lowering as he usually did when he did not tell the truth.
“Liar,” she laughed, giving him a firm punch in the arm. He made no move, even though he grudgingly admitted to himself that it hurt like a son of a bitch. He did not want to show that getting punched by a small female hurt much more than it should have.
“Fine. If you must know, moving right now is painful because of my back. I have knots upon knots and my spine keeps cracking in all the wrong ways. The joys of being old.” he nudged her, letting out a laugh. However, the laugh did not fool her. She knew that the pain was more than he was letting on to believe.
