stay here this christmas - louis tomlinson short story

“Please just stay here this Christmas. I need you, Louis,” she begs, holding him tightly.

“I’ll be home for Christmas,” he whispers softly into her soft hair. “I always come back for you.”

          zero; ho, ho, hopefully

You know I’m coming back.”

“Ever year you tell me the same thing and you’re never here, Louis. And it’s not like you’re with your family, you’re working. I know, you don’t have control over it, but can’t you say something to them? Lou, it’s not right for them to make you guys work on the holidays. You basically work 365 days a year. Why is that fair?”

He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose, leaning his head back into their shared sofa. She’s right. Every year, for the past two years, they’ve had the same conversation of why he couldn’t even see his family for Christmas and his birthday every year since they’ve been signed. “If I could I would be here, you know that, Hazel.”

She groans. “That’s not the point, Louis! Don’t you want to spent the holidays with your family? Or even your birthday?” she questions, sitting next to him. “Don’t you want a break?”

 He shrugs.

 “They have you brainwashed.”

 “No they don’t!”

“Lou, come on. This is completely unfair and you know it.”

 “But-”

“I’m sure the world wouldn’t stop if One Direction took two days off.”

“We get plenty of days off,” he counters.

“Really? That’s why you’ve seen your mother about two whole times this year?”

“Hazel,” he groans, getting frustrated with her.

“Louis, no, you know it isn’t fair of them to do that to you boys.”

He looks at her. “Hazel,” he tries reasoning. “I always visit you guys and fly you out when I can.”

“It’s not as often as it should be. They shouldn’t have so much control over you, Louis. I know you’re in the biggest boy band in the world, but come on!”

He sighs as she starts getting overwhelmed. “Baby, I know, it’s just-”

“What Louis? It’s just what?” She asks, tears slipping out of her blue-green eyes.

He’s lost for words. “I’m sorry. If I could, I would change it. I want to see you and my family more, but I can’t. I promise I’ll talk to them when we get to LA.”

She shakes her head, wiping her tears on the sleeve of the sweater she stole from Louis’ drawer. “No you won’t. You’re scared of them.”

“I’m not scared, it’s just they control my whole career and-”

“I know, they can take it all away in a second. I know, you tell me all the time.” She stands and wipes her tears again. “Whatever, I don’t care anymore. I’m going to sleep. You should, too. You have a flight at five in the morning.” She points to the time on the cable box before she disappears down the hall of their London apartment, sniffling all the way to their room.
