Stay Here This Christmas.

{Chapter 1: If I Lose You}

“In other news, a girl was reported missing today.” The female news reporter said, her voice filling the house.

"Kev, turn that off! It's so depressing," The dark brown haired boy yelled at his roommate from the bathroom where he was fixing his hair.

He and his roommate, Kevin, were planning to go out tonight. It was the night before Christmas Eve and they wanted to get in a little party time with their friends before the holiday.

"No, Travis! Come here now!" Kevin yelled, turning up the volume on the television.

He sighed, drying his hair gel filled hands on a towel before walking towards the living room.

Travis walked into the room, Kevin glued to the TV, watching in shock. "Look!" Kevin said, pointing to the picture of the girl on the screen.

Travis looked up at the screen, looking right into the girl's emerald green eyes. His mouth dropped as he fell on to the couch beside Kevin. "She's- she's," was all Travis could get out before the reporter started again.

"Kaylee Brooke Johnson was reported this morning by her parents. They claim that she never came home last night and she isn’t answering her cell phone.” The news reporter went on about the case but Travis drowned in his own thoughts didn’t hear a thing.

He could not believe it. He refused to face the fact that the girl he loved was missing. However, Travis wasn't currently with Kaylee. He and Kaylee had broken up almost a year ago on Christmas Eve. Well, their break-up wasn’t that simple.

Travis found out that she had been seeing another person behind his back, or so he thought. The other person had turned out to be Kaylee’s ex-boyfriend, but they were doing nothing wrong, in her eyes that is. Travis felt betrayed and didn’t want to hear her side of the story.

Little did Travis know that Kaylee was only seeing her ex as a friend to get advice. She didn’t want to make the same mistakes she had made with him with Travis. She loved Travis; she would never try to hurt him.

Travis though she was cheating and was planning to leave him for her ex. Nevertheless, to save himself from getting hurt he ended the relationship in drastic matters. He left, leaving without an explanation. However, his decision only hurt them both even more.

After their break-up, Kaylee moved back in with her parents while she suffered from depression. She felt like her world was over, like there was nothing left to live for. She went to therapy, took medication, she tried everything but nothing could fix the hole in her heart.

Well one thing could, but he was facing his own heartache. Kaylee tried calling Travis, texting him, trying everything she could do to get him back or at least to just be his friend. She needed him in her life. He was the reason she was living.

Travis felt he couldn’t live without her either but he handled his emotion in a creative matter. He wrote song about her, their break-up and his life after her, trying so desperately to move on. But for Travis, he just felt himself falling more and more in love with her everyday.

Now he was staring at his one and only true love on the news and not for a good reason.

"Travis? Travis? Travis!" Kevin impatiently yelled, trying to snap him back.

Travis shook his head frantically. "Tell me this is a horrible nightmare, Kevin. Please tell me that." he hung his head, rubbing his eyes as if he was trying to un-see what he had just seen.

Travis felt the pain was much worst than the first time he had lost her. At least last time he knew where she was, unlike this time. Now only morphine could numb the ache in Travis' wounded heart.

"I'm sorry, I honestly wish I could," he rubbed Travis back, trying to comfort him, but he pushed him away.

"This is- I can't even put it into words!" Travis yelled.

"Dude, just calm down. It's going to be okay," Kevin cooed.

"No, you don't know that!"

"Travis, you have to calm down."

He stared up into his roommates eyes, searching for his reasoning. "Do you not understand what's going on Kevin?” he asked, raising his voice. "Kaylee is missing as in can’t be found, nobody knows where she is and you want me to calm down?"

"Kaylee is a smart girl, I'm sure she's-"

"Don't say she's fine because she's not!" Travis yelled. "She's could be dead for all we know!"

"Don't think like that," Kevin said calmly.

"Well, I have no choice but to."

"She going to be fine, I promise."

"If she was fine she would be here with me!" Travis yelled, not realizing what he had just said.

Kevin stared at him in disbelief, only because Travis would always say, when asked, that he was over Kaylee. She was in the past and he didn't care.

"Why did you pick now to start caring all of a sudden?" Kevin asked. "Because you and I both know you didn't give a crap about her last year," he said, his blue eyes turning to ice along with his words.

Travis didn't answer. He shot up off the couch. "Don't come looking for me." he told his roommate sternly as he grabbed his jacket and stormed out the door.

"Perfect," Kevin muttered to himself as the door slammed. "Just what we all need this Christmas, because last year wasn't enough?" He sighed and sat back on the couch, continuing to watch the news.
