Simon

"Simon!" I hear a familiar voice scream, I lay on the ground clutching my elbow.

"Simon! Are you okay?" I hear Sam ask.

"Of course he's not okay you idiot, he just got hit in the arm by a 90 mile per hour fastball," Dan says, slapping Sam on the back of his head.

"Can you move your arm son?" My coach asks. I slowly flex my arm and wince. "Well at least it isn't broken, but I'm taking you out of the game."

"No! I'm fine, please coach please let me play! It wasn't even my throwing arm. I just won't bat, you can sub me in, please coach!" I plead looking at him.

"I'm going to be killed for this," He mutters under his breath, "Alright, but if it starts to bug you again you have to tell me, we'll sub in a runner for you. Joe! Get out to first base for Simon!" Coach yells at Joe. Dan extends his hand to me and I grab it. When I get up the audience starts to clap and I see Sophia waiting by the dugout.

"Are you alright?" Sophia asks worriedly when I get by her, looking me over.

"Yeah, it just hit my arm, it's alright though. Coach is gonna let me play," I say, looking at the game when Dan hits a ball out to left field.

"What! No way, you got hit!" She yells.

"Soph I'm fine," I say nonchalantly.

"Ugh. I can't believe that he is letting you play. Just be careful." She groans and turns away.

"Wait," I say to her, "Thanks for being worried, Soph." I smile at her.

"That's what friends are for," She says, smiling back. I don't know why but my smile drops slightly at that. I quickly bring it back to my face.

"I've got to get back to the game. See you after we win," I say winking at her.

"You better win! Make sure to throw strikes." She yells and walks away.

We get two runs and then switch, I run out to the pitchers mound and throw a couple pitches to Dan.

When the ump calls for the batter to step into the box I look into the stands and see Sophia smiling and watching intently. She waves and I nod my head at her before turning my head back towards Dan.

"You can do this," I whisper quietly to myself thinking of how my mom, Julia, and Sophia are watching the game. Though mom and Julia are not here, that's alright. At least Soph is.

I strike the batter out, and the next one hits the ball and makes it to first.

I look at the runner on first and look back to Dan, he signals for me to throw the guy at first out. I nod my head and get ready. My throw barely beats the guy and then there's two outs. The crowd cheers and I smile, "Just one more Simon!" Sam yells at me.

The next two guys get hits and get on base, one on first and one on third. The count is once again 3-2. I throw the ball and the ump shouts strike three.

----------------------------

It's the ninth inning and the score is 7-6, we are in the lead. Sadly enough I can't hit because I hurt my arm, even though it no longer hurts, and they put me in shortstop.

A boy named Aaron is pitching, he's definitely not as good as I am, but he's not too bad. I just wish it was me up there. He strikes the first guy out and walks the next. The next guys gets a hit and he gets a double. "Plays at one, watch home!" Dan shouts from behind the plate.

The next guy hits the ball straight to me and I catch it. "Two down one to go!" I shout to the team.

Aaron throws a ball, then a strike, then another Strike, then a ball. It's 2-2. The batter hits the next pitch and it looks like it's going to be a home run. Jim, another player on our team runs and jumps and catches the ball right before it is gonna go out. We all start yelling and screaming like madmen and rush to pick up Jim.

When we all get back to the dugout I see Anna, Sophia, and Brad waiting for us. "You did it!" Sophia exclaims, running towards me but throws her arms around paul, who is standing beside me. I frown and look away, feeling slightly disappointed.

"Good job man," Brad says, walking up to me, we do a little half hug.

"Thanks. Hopefully next year we will be having you in the shortstop position, not me," I say, glancing over at Sophia who is talking to Paul about the ball he caught, luckily, might I add, in the third inning.

She turns away from Paul and comes to stand in front of me. "Good job Simon! How your arm?" She asks smiling at me, her eyes have a bit of worry in them as she glances at my arm.

"It's good, it doesn't hurt anymore, " I say and she nods her head.

"Ok, well I'll catch you later," She says turning away from me and goes towards Dan.

We head back to the hotel because that's the only game we are playing today. I am sharing a room with Dan and Sam, and Brad and Paul are sharing another right next to us, with Anna and Sophia sharing the room across from us.

After an hour I hear someone knocking on the door and find Sophia, Anna, Brad, and Paul all in their swimsuits. I quickly rake my eyes over Sophia and she looks as pretty as ever. "We were wondering if you guys wanted to come swimming with us?" Brad asks. I snap my head towards him.

"Sounds good with me, you two wanna come?" I ask Dan and Sam.

"Definitely, who knows who will be there," Dan says winking. Sam nods as well.

"We will be out in a bit, wait here," I tell them closing the door.

We all quickly slip on our swim trunks and step out of the door. Annas's mouth falls slightly open staring at Sam. Sophia is talking to Paul so she hasn't noticed is yet, when she turns her head I see her check me out, it was quick enough that if I wasn't looking to hard I wouldn't notice. "Let's go!" Dan yells, running down the hall. We all laugh and run after him.

As we are running a door opens and someone steps out. "Soph! Look out!" I yell at her, but she runs right into the person, they instantly put their arms around her to stop her from falling. "Well hello, Sophie."
