Dear future me,

Paul is definitely being more flirty, which is interesting. I'm curious to see if anything develops. School is actually kind of fun. We are doing a play right now. I convinced Simon to do a love story with me. I think today is the day to write about Jan-

Sophia

I am interrupted from my writing when the phone rings. It's an unknown number, but I answer anyway.

"H-hey Soph, it's Simon," Simon says, his voice shaky.

"Simon, what's wrong?" I question in a concerned tone

"I-I don't know, can you p-please watch my sister Julia while I figure it out?" As much as I'd like to, I can't turn him down.

"Okay, bring her to my house," I agree.

I jump up and get changed into something decent, since I was home alone today, my parents are going on vacation, and Justin is at his friends house. He'll be home around six.

In about five minutes I hear a knock on the door and open it to see Simon. He honestly looks like he's about to cry. By his side is a girl that is about twelve years old.

"Hi, you must be Simon's sister," I say extending my hand for her to shake.

"Yeah, I'm Julia." She gives me a smile which shows a gap between her front teeth.

"Uh, I'm gonna go, thanks Soph," Simon says, giving me a weak smile and jogging back to his car.

"Come inside Julia." I try and sound welcoming as I open the door wider for her. "Do you like cookies? Because I was thinking of making them." I say, giving her a grin.

"I love cookies! I also love to bake them." I see her eyes light up just thinking about them causing me to chuckle.

"Well let's get going then," I say walking towards the kitchen. She follows me having to walk a little faster than me to keep up. "So how old are you Jewels?"

"I'm twelve, and I like that name."

Twelve, that's Justin's age.

"Do you know my brother Justin? He goes to your school I think." I question while grabbing the ingredients we will need.

"He's your brother? I knew he said he had a sister, and I guess you two do look alike. We are best friends." I smile, happy to hear Justin has such a great friend. I can tell she's a nice girl.

"Well, that's good knowing Justin has a friend. Can you hand me the flour please?" I ask pointing to a white bag.

"Sure, here you go," She says giving it to me.

--------------------------

"Ah ah ah. Not yet, we are waiting for Justin, he'll be home in five minutes." She sticks out her lower lip and pouts.

"Hey Soapie, I'm home!" Justin yells, he calls me Soapie because when we were younger I took a bite of soap thinking it was food. That's also why he put soap in my bag on the first day of school. My sister, Janet, actually gave me that name.

"We got cookies!" Julia yells.

"Julia? What are you doing here?" Justin asks, grinning at her.

I excuse myself quickly to use the restroom, but they barely even glance at me before continuing their conversation.

When I get to the kitchen I see Justin and Julia stuffing their faces with cookies. "And what do you think you two are doing?" I question, putting my hands on my hips and giving them a pointed look.

They look like they got caught stealing cookies from the cookie jar, literally. "Oh um, well you said that when Justin gets here we can have cookies," Julia says giving me a smile.

"When I said cookies I didn't mean half of the pan but oh well," I say. I'd do the same thing if I was left in a room with cookies.

I hear a knocking on the door and run to open it. When I do I see a puffy-eyed Simon and I step out onto the porch and close the door. Against my better judgment, I wrap my arms around him and first he tenses, but then he does the same.

"Are you okay?" I ask, worry obvious in my voice.

"T-they shot her Soph. They shot my mom." Simon says, his grip tightening. I feel my mouth fall open in shock but I calm myself down.

"Is she okay?" I say, rubbing my hand on his back because it sounds like he's starting to cry again.

"Y-yeah she'll be fine, they missed her heart by 4 inches." He lets out a sob.

"Shh Shh, it's okay, she's okay. Just calm down. Did you call your father?" I ask.

"Uh my father isn't around anymore. He passed away a few years ago." My heart breaks for him. He almost lost both parents.

"I'm sorry, I didn't' know. Would You like to come inside?" He just nods his head. I bring him to the living room and motion for him to sit on the couch. "Do you want anything? We made cookies if you want some." I ask trying to distract him.

"Uh sure, do you mind getting me some water too?" He asks, his voice is raspy from crying. I nod my head and quickly walk off.

"Hey Soapie, who's here?" Justin asks. He and Julia are now sitting at the table playing scrabble.

"Oh just Simon, you two just keep playing your game," I say grabbing a few cookies and some water and walking out of the room.

"Here you go," I say, giving him his food.

"Thanks, Soph, for everything, for watching Julia and for the food. Um, I have one more question, I wouldn't ask unless I kinda needed to." He says, scratching the back of his neck.

"Sure what is it?" I ask giving him a small smile.

"Um, could Julia and I stay at your house?"
