I walked closer to the door, my heart in my stomach. The boss was going to be angry with me for letting the water elemental get free. I pushed the door open to a satin room, gold embroidery lining every cushion.
"Did you bring me the girl?" he asked. I mumbled something unintelligible, and the chair turned slowly. A stoutly man sat there, a gun pointed at me.
"I asked if you got the girl! Or did you disappoint me just like your brother?" I winced at the thought of my brother. I was left alone with his daughter, Sophie. My own daughter was gone somewhere, her power probably manifesting in it's own way. One short wavelength of sound reverberated through the room, shattering the nearby glass.
"Are you trying to get killed? I don't think your daughter or niece would like a dead caretaker, do you? Tell you what, I'll give you one more chance. Get the girl AND the boy and you'll live. I'll even let your family go. You are all useless anyway." He put the gun away, but he could still deploy much things more dangerous than that. He stood up, intimidating besides his short height. He left the room, the door automatically closing besides him. I ran out, ready to work myself to death to protect myself and my family.
