I ran through the woods. My heart fluttered in my chest, and my breath was heavy. I could keep going for a while, but I should conserve energy. I leaned against a tree, about to fall asleep when I realized what I could do. I placed my hand on the tree and it began to wilt and die. A surge of energy filled me as the tree rotted and crashed to the ground. I began running again, using the tree's energy to fuel me. I kept going, running, every once in a while zapping the life force from a tree. Each time I needed energy sooner, and I was getting less energy every time. I eventually fell, out of energy and getting next to nothing for every plant and tree I touched. I fell asleep in that position, face down in mud and half on a tree root.
I woke up to mud up my nose, and the sun setting. Knowing it was setting when I fainted from exhaustion, I came to the conclusion that I had slept an entire day. I grabbed a tree and sucked out the energy. I felt the sudden rush of energy and knew my power had returned. I began a slow jog, slowly increasing speed. I made it to a town before nightfall, but just barely. As I entered I recognized it. It was home. I walked to my house and snuck in. On the table laid several layers of missing flyers for me. A can of frozen vegetables was open on the table. I quietly opened the doors to the pantry and slipped in. I took my backpack from school that must have been brought home by the police and filled it with cans and ramen. I grabbed several water bottles before leaving, hoping my parents wouldn't notice the missing food. I climbed a tree and slept in it for the night, gaining energy the natural way.
I woke to some of my old friends walking by. I listened to their conversation, anger surging through me.
"So, how was being the linebacker?"
"Good, now that Cai is gone. He always got the good positions. I'm glad he left"
"Me too, he was...annoying. Right? I found him rather obnoxious." His smirk snapped into a frown in an instant.
"What is it?"
"I felt a burn on my cheek"
"It's fall and no ashes or fires anywhere" He looked as if he was going to say more when a black line stretched across his face, following where his vessels where. They began to run, and I let them. I was going to get revenge on my school. Let's see what happens when the light go dark.
I walked up to the entrance to the school. The alert button was there, but I had already created a plan to getting in and out. I tapped it with my finger and the doors unlocked. I walked in as the first period bell rang. I had a straight shot down the hallway, and I knew where they were. I turned into Mrs. Kyrisle's room and pushed the door open. Every head faced me as I walked in, each step a defiance towards them. Mrs. Kyrisle rushed over to check on me, pestering me how long I've been in town.
"Long enough" I raised my hand and turned off all the lights in the building "And I'm more powerful than ever." I felt a cold laugh leave my throat. She backed away, stuttering. I turned around to my "friends" and walked towards them, glaring.
"Must be nice seeing me, as you took my absence as your time to take my position. I am done with you, so better prepare for the worst I can give." I sent a lightning bolt in their direction, but a flagpole drew the power and fried itself in the process. They stared at me, realizing too late that I would not stop. The electricity from the flagpole gathered together and formed the shape of a fist. I rose my own up, the ball of voltage crackling with energy. I threw a punch at the air, and the ball of electricity hit, my victims absorbing the energy. I felt a tug in my gut telling me I was almost out of energy, but I was going out in style. I raised my hands and turned into a bolt of electricity, right into the outlet. I flew through the cables until I reached one far out of town.
Feeling the lack of energy in my system, I touched a tree and attempted to claims some of it's energy, but my power was refusing to work. I focused harder on using my power, but was shot backwards by some invisible force. My power flowed faintly through my veins, just barely keeping me alive. I felt a rash forming on my hand, too accelerated to be natural. My eyes closed as my power tried to conserve as much of it as it could. It was too weak to do anything else.
I woke to a bright light in my face, darkness around the edges. I opened my eyes to a flashlight shining into them, its brightness blinding. I reached up and knocked it out of the way, my power doing nothing to shut it off. I stood up quickly, sending the guy who was holding the flashlight flying back. I winced as he landed on his back, the sound of his spine snapping. I began walking away when I felt a spark on my hand. My power was somewhat back, not fully yet, but enough. I turned around to him getting up, in some way standing.
"A broken back is nothing to me"
"What are you?"
"An elemental like you, only I know what I'm supposed to do"
"And what is that?"
"Kill you" As the vowel died on his lips a force pushed me on my back. He took a device out and started messing with it, then looking at me.
"A little harder now that you broke my power interferer, but I will still accomplish my mission. You may have some power, but you still are nowhere near full strength." He lifted his arm and I was lifted off of the ground, dangling in mid-air.
"I am so going to enjoy this!" He slapped me telekinetically. I sent a weak volt at him, just enough to cause his power to malfunction. I hit the ground hard, but jumped back up. I ran towards him as he refocused. I was about to tackle him when I was sent flying backwards.
"You can't stop me when you are this weak-" He smirked "- or are you just normally this pathetic?"
"We'll see" I watched him raise his hand to attack me, but I also watched his device hit the ground. I felt a rush of power following it landing and shattering. I sent a lightning bolt at him, but he contained it into a force field. I grabbed onto the energy attachments he was using to attach his power. I pulled them out in a sense, and he fell to the ground. He was breathing heavily, but his power was cut off. My lightning bolt hit him, letting little sparks off. I walked slowly towards him, but he sent me flying backwards. His power had recovered. I sent a bolt at him, but he expected it. The last thing I saw was my bolt hitting a tree while one fell on me.
