Our finished tree house stood in front of us as we sat around a fire. Aloe's arm was wrapped around me. I smiled and grew a blueberry bush. We did not have of shortage of plants and vegetables, but we would need to start a way to get meat. We sat there eating an assortment of berries and fruits until late. Eventually I climbed the ladder we had built, the boards thumping together. I made it to the spacious central room, where rope bridges led to other rooms. None of them were filled yet, but they were ready for anyone. I climbed a solid ladder up the steps to my room and fell down on my bed of mosses and soft leaves.
I woke up to yelling and I looked out the window. In the tree across from my window, Aloe was sticking his head out. I scanned the land below, thankful we were on a fairly flat area. A kid was being taken down by some larger people in lab coats. I slid down a slide to reach down faster, thanking my younger self for installing it. I landed on the one lab coat and he hit the ground hard. The other three attacked me, their hands like solid steel. As I pushed them off I noticed they were made of metal. I realized the kid must be an elemental also.
"What is your power?"
"What do you mean?"
"Obviously if you were being attacked by these guys, you must have a power. What is it?"
"This" I turned around to see him faded out. He stayed that way for several seconds before returning back to view. One of the lab coats had snuck up behind me during my moment of watching him and hit me on the head. I collapsed, feeling blood pour from my scalp.
"No!" I heard Aloe's voice ring above me. A sound of potatoes landing on the ground and then several punches. I felt his hand on me, his power infusing with my blood. My eyes closed as my scalp closed. The last thing I heard was the kid, mumbling or I couldn't hear him.
*****Five hours later*****
"How are you?" My eyes opened and the two stood above me.
"Can you hear me?"
"Yes, now get off me before I grow a melon in you" He backed off, smirking.
"I'll still do it"
"I have no doubt"
"You better not" My eyes flickered over the new person, his face still in shock.
"You okay?"
"I..I think s-so"
"Are you hungry?"
"He showed me the b-bushes, with the b-berries. T-thank y-you" I stood up slowly, my head still hurting and I was really tired. I finally made my way up and saw Aloe's slouched position. Healing me must have taken a lot out of us.
"Do you know anything of what's going on?"
"N-no, can y-you explain?"
"There are people out there with powers, who are called elementals. They are hunted down by those evil people. We help them, but you are the only one here right now. We have to work together, ok?" He looked as if he understood only a little bit, but better than not at all.
"What's your name? I'm Lily, and this is my boyfriend, Aloe."
"My name is Oliver Twine, and I my mom had a b-boyfriend. He was covered in red s-stuff when the guy p-pointed the metal object at him. My mom was hurt too, but she wasn't covered in the red stuff. S-she was light-skinned. She ch-changed colors like a c-chameleon!" I scooped him up, hoping I wouldn't have to explain his parents were dead, at least his mother's boyfriend. His mother might be alright.
"Oliver, do we want to go see your room?
"Y-yes please, c-can you g-get Freddy f-first?"
"Of course, where is he?" After he told me, I went down and found the bear among some weeds. When I climbed back up, bear in my arms, Aloe already had Oliver in his room. I brought his bear and sat down with him. I sat next to him for several minutes, holding his hand. He was taking it hard, tears pouring down his face. I was getting up when he stopped me.
"Can you c-call me Olly? My mother used to c-call me that."
"Of course, let me go get some stuff together for you"
