I stayed in the fox-hole until I was sure everyone was gone. I got out slowly, so if anyone was watching from afar I wouldn't draw their attention. I felt an itch crawl over my back as if someone was watching me. I looked around and there seemed to be no one. I moved slowly, almost a tip-toe, away from the school. That's where the government was doing their experiments. I knew I had to go back to Kaiti, Izak, and Merlin and tell them. Still walking slowly, I made it to a denser part of the forest. I started sprinting as soon as I could, when no light made it through the thick foliage. Every sound made me hide in terror. Eventually, I made to a clearing. Looking around and seeing nothing, I settled down. I grabbed some energy from the trees, spreading it evenly so they could survive. I sat down and slept, catching up on energy.

I woke to a shadow in the edge of the clearing, stalking me.

"Who are you?"

"Just someone else who escaped"

"Can I at least see you?"

"Can I trust you?"

"What am I going to do? I just escaped from an experiment." He then came out of the shadows, exposing his sunken features. His grey eyes looked at me with trepidation.

"What is wrong with you"

"They tested on me. They wanted my ability."

"What is that?"

"The ability to see the future."

"And your name...?"

"Miles"

"Cai" He came over to me and sat down. We sat there, and I was thankful for letting me catch my breath.

"So what is your element Cai? Why did they want you?"

"My element is on a whole other level. I can control almost anything with enough energy and power. I have killed, resurrected, stolen other elements, and caused lightning." I was glad that he didn't scoot away or anything. I smiled at him, finally finding someone who was helping me. I smiled back but then his eyes started glowing, overpowering the little light left in the clearing. I started shaking him, trying to wake him from whatever stupor he was in. Forming a ball of energy, I screamed into the woods. His heart started slowing, the energy in his being slow and dispersing. I charged him, and then light blue energies started reaching into his chain of energy. I watched them imbue their power into him, and then they left. His eyes returned to their normal shade of color, dimming to their normal dark appearance.

"Miles?" When he didn't respond a single tear splashed down my cheek.

"Miles?" I lifted him up and started crying, and then I felt energy surge under my fingers. He started breathing again, breath started rushing in his lungs again.

"Cai, can you get off me?" I jumped back, giving him space. He sat up, his face paler than before.

"My element does that. Usually I'm out longer."

"I filled you with energy. What did you see?"

"I'd rather not tell you."

"Is it my death? They gave me your element temporarily in the lab. I watched my funeral." His eyes raised, giving him the appearance of a drug addict.

"How did you survive. Did they finally figure out how to create a safe serum?"

"No. My element protected me" He sat down and I sat down next to him, close.

"Are you sure you're okay? That was a... breathtaking moment." He just smiled at me and scooted a little closer. He started to lean in for a kiss when my vision flashed. Suddenly I saw a skeleton instead of him, gory flesh still clinging. He was larger, and definitely older. I jumped up, screaming. He seemed horrifying. I looked around, and everything was in a state of decay. Grass was brown and crinkly, trees fallen and scarred.

"Cai? Are you okay?" I looked at the skeleton, watching it get up and move towards me.

"Why are you....dead?" I realized how odd it sounded when it came out. A look of confusion crossed his face.

"What do you mean?" He came closer, but I jumped back. The scene was horrid.

"Everything is...dead. Rotted, decayed. However you want to say it."

"I think I know what it is, you just need to calm down, okay?" I nodded and sat down, staring at everything in their rotted state.

"It's a side effect of the experiment. It happened before, with the first elemental they tested it on. He died within minutes, but while he was dying he told me he saw everything in a state of decay. I think you can see things when they are dead." I started nodding, glad to have an explanation. I started settling down when I realized what happened after. This is how I'm going to die. Residual side effects of the experiment.

"We need to go to Lily's base camp. It's the closest and I have no idea how long I have." He nodded and we started leaving, the stars now twinkling above us.

The sun started rising again when we came upon the clearing where Lily and Aloe had taken residence. Bushes and trees surrounded the area, and a grove of trees clustered around a bigger tree. Obviously the work of Lily, we started towards it. I was almost there when another wave in a my vision returned it to normal.

"My vision cleared" Miles smiled, but continued walked with me. He moved closer and held my hand, the feelings of gratitude on his face that he could do so without me freaking out. We heard talking as we got closer, so I started to yell for them. First, I saw Izak, then Kaiti, Lily and Aloe holding hands, and then the same kid in my vision.

"I'm back."

I was tense as I waited for their reaction, not only because my boyfriend but because of how I left. Kaiti jumped down to hug me, as did Lily. Aloe stayed up in the tree with the kid, but looked like he was happy that I made it back. Izak, on the other hand, looked ready to kill. His glare was piercing, like shattered glass. I looked back, pleading for forgiveness while Lily and Kaiti hugged me. They left to go pester Miles, and I went up to talk with Izak.

"So you think that you can come back after what you did and be completely accepted? They may forgive you, but I don't know if I ever can." I nodded, glad he wasn't that angry; upset, but not really angry.

"Can you at least try? I would like to know that you've forgiven me before... it happens." A look of confusion crossed his face, but I left him before he could question it. Lily came and directed Miles and me to our rooms.
