Oliver sat on the foot of his bed when I brought his stuff to him. It wasn't much, just some random pieces of paper and that. We didn't have much, but hopefully we would soon. Aloe and I decided that he needed to go work in the nearest town. He was going to leave the next morning, so I was left with Oliver for the day. I decided we would work on building his power. He snuggled up on his pile of leaves and I started to leave.
"Can you tell me a story?" i turned around to look at him.
"Please; I can't sleep without one?" I sat down on the edge of his "bed" and started telling him Humpty Dumpty. It wasn't long before he fell asleep. The peace on his face gave me some joy. I bent down and kissed him on his forehead. I walked out, whistling a tune.
"Lily!"
"Wha-what? My gosh, what time is it?" I was looking out the window past Aloe, where the sun was almost to noon.
"Do you have to leave today?"
"If I don't leave now I never will." He picked up his bag and kissed me on the cheek. Our last set of clean clothes hung to his chest, water gleaming on him. He really was trying to impress his (hopefully) future employers.
"Be back soon"
"I'll never leave you for long. I fed Oliver, but you better check in on him before long." He turned and left my treehouse, tearing my heart to see him leave. I knew I would wait for him the entire day.
I got out of bed slowly, enjoying the pleasure of not having a ton of things to do. I walked out of my room to Oliver running around the main treehouse. He had found a twig and was hitting the tree. I should yell at him, but I just regrew the areas he harmed. I took a break from this after maybe an hour and jumped the the ladder. Right beside it was a blueberry bush, so I grabbed a handful and sat down on a rock. I sat down, staring into the small spring. I almost fell asleep again like that when Olly began yelling. I turned around to more labcoat-wearing people. I jumped up and rushed towards them.
"Back off of him!" They turned around to find my hands out and hair flying through the air. Some of the scientists recognized me, but started smiling. I would have stopped, but one of them already had Oliver. They began stuffing him in a sack when I felt something kick in me. I raised my hands, feeling my blood stop running and being replaced by complete power. I heard a scream rip through my throat, louder than a banshee. I collapsed as my power left and I was left cold. My vision faded to black as a green cloud grew from the ground.
"L-Lily?" I started opening my eyes when Aloe's voice bellowed.
"Over here!" I sat up as Aloe rushed over to where I am. Oliver was sitting next to me. He obviously was putting on a strong face, but his hand fading in and out gave out his nervousness. I grabbed his non-flickering hand and held it, hoping to calm him down. His hand started to stay visible in longer periods.
"What happened?" I looked around, just realizing what my power had done. Everything was covered in moss and ivy, except for the scientists. Each one was wrapped in vines, thorns prodding them. Blood coated the leaves, but each one was still alive.
"I don't know"
"..but didn't you do this?"
"S-she heard me y-yelling, s-so she c-came to h-help me. I w-was worried, b-but she saved m-me! Sh-she rose her h-hands and poof! Th-this all a-appeared." He snuggled up next to me as he said that.
"Olly, why don't you go play in the spring?" He left and Aloe walked over.
"Is what he said true?"
"I really don't know. I was okay one minute, raising my hands, and then I passed out." I watched his face change from curiousity to surprise, and then to fear. He began to step back.
"What's wrong?"
"Your hair and eyes are changing color?" He said it questionaly and then stepped forward. He started messing with my hair. A lock got stuck in my face, so I grabbed it. My auburn hair changed to an oak brown.
"What color are my eyes"
"Green" I began to think what may have caused it.
"Maybe it's some type of mutation?"
"There's no such thing as such a rapid change of color. You know, I kind of like it." He leaned down to kiss me, but I slapped him in the face.
"How could you think of something like that at this time? What if there is something really wrong with me?" Just then, Oliver ran towards us, being chased by some object.
"H-help me!" He made it past us and I prepared to attack it, but then it stopped. It collapsed on the ground, purpling energy flickering around it. Even after traveling at the speed it was, there was dust on it. I blew the dust off of it and coughed.
"What is it?"
"I really don't know, Aloe. There's a lock on it. Do you know how to pick locks?" Aloe came over, but shook his head. I was about to bring it up when Oliver came back.
"I-i can open th-that! M-mother taught me t-to d-do that" He grabbed the book and hit the lock several times, seemingly random. The book popped open and Aloe asked Oliver why he was taught that.
"My m-mom wanted m-me to s-steal some of my d-dads money w-when she n-needed some for h-her medicine." I gave Aloe the book and picked Oliver up. He hugged me as a tear carved its way down my face.
"M-mom don't c-cry" He then wiped the tear from my face. His action was useless, as the statement made my eyes erupt. I realized that ever since he arrived her, I was his mother. Through the tears, I saw shades of pink and gold glitter in my eyes. I wiped them, and the sun was setting.
"Aloe, we'll talk about it later. First, we need to get some food. Bring the book and Oliver up, and I'll grab some fruits." He started carrying the book up, Oliver climbing above him. I went to the orchard and grabbed an assortment of food. I climbed after them, juggling the hoard of food in my hands. When I got up there, Aloe grabbed some fruit and walked along with me. I placed it on the worn circle where we ate our food.
"Can I-i have a-another y-yellow juicy thing?" I handed Oliver one of the mangoes. The plant was doing so good here, so the tree was quickly dying. After we finished eating, we sent Oliver to bed. I came back half an hour later, after reading him a book and singing him "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". Aloe sat there, the book already opened.
"Find out anything about my...predictament?" My finger pointed to my hair.
"It's called the metamorphisis. It happens when an elemental used their power to full capability without killing themshelf. It increases their power somewhat, but it also changed the pigments your body produces to better match your element."
