Hiccup's POV

I woke up with a stretch. I got out of bed, like normal and out on my regular red t-shirt and jeans.    I walked down the stairs of my dad's great mansion and grabbed some breakfast before heading off to school.

When I made it, I could see an entire see of green. Then I remembered. It was St. Patrick's Day. And on St. Patrick's day you were green. Crap. I tried to avoid as many people as possible, because I hated being pinched. I also noticed a few people, including Snotlout, making kissy faces as I passed by. I didn't know why, but it scared me a little.

Lunch finally came, and I decided to sit on the outside steps to avoid anybody. I had just opened up my peanut butter and jelly sandwich when I heard a familiar voice.

"Thought I'd find you here." the voice said.

I turned around. "Oh, hey, Astrid, didn't think you'd be away from everybody else."

"Eh, well, everybody told me that you weren't wearing green, and somehow haven't gotten pinched yet. And I wanted to see you."

I shrugged my shoulders. "Eh, well, you get kinda good at dodging people and other things after being bullied for most of middle school."

"Hey, do you actually know what it means when you wear red on St. Patrick's Day?" Astrid asked as she sat down next to me.

"Does it mean something?"

"Yes, it does."

"Can you tell me?"

"Why should I do that?" Astrid asked me with a sly grin.

"Are people supposed to do something? Am I supposed to do something?"

Astrid pretended to think for a moment. "Maayybe."

"Why aren't you telling me what happens if you wear red?"

"Because there's no fun in it if I just tell you. You have to figure it out on your own."

"Hmm, okay, Snotlout and the twins were making kissy faces as I walked by them, does that have anything to do with it?"

"It could, there's a reason why it hasn't happened yet." Astrid said as she scooted closer to me.

"Could you tell me why?"

"Because of me." Astrid said. She was now only centimeters away from my face.

I thought for a second. Why would it be because of Astrid? Was it because she was my girlfriend? I thought some more, trying to ignore Astrid's hot breath in my face.

"So, have you figured it out yet?" Astrid asked.

"No, but your breath stinks." I said.

"Ugh, really?" she said as she pushed me off of the stairs and into a bush.

"Hey! I can't help it if your fish-breath is blocking my train of thought!" I yelled as I climbed out of the bush and back to my place on the stairs.

"Do you want me to tell you?" Astrid asked.

"No, I think I got it." I said before thinking some more.

I thought about the kissy faces and Astrid, and how weird she was acting. I finally put the pieces together.

"Ohhhh! I get it now you're supposed to-"

I was cut off by Astrid's lips meeting mine.

"Happy St. Patrick's Day."

Hey guys! I know St. Patrick's day was yesterday, but I had a friend over, so I wasn't able to write. And ironically, I learned about the whole red thing from my crush, he yelled it out in homeroom today. So, yeah.
