After Five Years...

Hiccup took a deep breath as he walked through the woods of Berk. After five years, nothing had really changed, other than the fact that a few trees were taller. He gasped when he saw the village come into view.

Five years. He didn't plan to be gone for that long. But after he ran into the red death, he was stuck on dragon island healing himself, then he got caught dealing with some dragon hunters.

Hiccup crept closer to the village. It was almost dawn, so he didn't think that anyone would ever really spot him. Upon seeing the forge, he ran as fast as his legs could take him. Even if one of them was missing. When he reached the inside of the forge, his last moments on Berk flashed through his mind.

"Hiccup, I know ye don' wan' to kill tha' dragon, but ye can' just run away. Imagine how heartbroken Stoick would be?" Gobber asked worriedly as he watched the young viking pack up his supplies.

Hiccup shook his head. "You don't understand, Gobber, I'll only be gone for a few months. I want to get a proper map of the archipelago, and with Toothless, I'll have an overhead view. I'll be fine."

Gobber sighed. "If ye say so. I won' say anythin' to yerr father, but just know, tha' when ye come back, 'e won' be too happy with ye."

Hiccup nodded. "I know. Thank you for helping me out, Gobber. I know this is a little hard."

Gobber smiled. "Be safe, lad."

Hiccup smiled. "I will."

Hiccup smiled at all the memories he ha made with Gobber there. He walked over to his apron and decided to finish a sword for Gobber. As he worked, the sun began to slowly rise, and vikings began to walk out of their huts.

Upon hearing the noise coming from the forge, the Vikings curiously walked over, knowing that Gobber was normally still asleep at this time.

After finishing the sword, Hiccup wiped the sweat from his forehead and smiled at his work.

"I think that's my best on yet!" he said triumphantly.

Gasps could be heard from the crowd. There was no other Viking on Berk that could make a sword that well and had a voice as sarcastic as that.

Hiccup turned around to face the crowd. He smiled sheepishly and waved.

"Hey, guys, it's, a, it's been a while, hasn't it?"

The next few seconds went by in a blur. Cries of happiness and joy came from all directions as Vikings poured into the forge. Hiccup was hoisted up above the crowd and ended up being carried through the village.

Hiccup felt conflicted. On one hand, his younger self would have basked in the praise, but the other hand, if they knew why he had gone and how he had survived, he'd be exiled in a heartbeat.

The cheering crowd dropped him right in front of the large doors that led into the great hall. The crowd pulled open the doors and shoved him in. After the doors had shut, Hiccup was met with the confused looks of Gobber, Snotlout, Spitelout, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Astrid, Fishlegs, and...Stoick.

Astrid jumped out of her seat and ran toward Hiccup, axe drawn. Hiccup, knowing where this could go, ducked out of the way right as Astrid launched herself at him. Hiccup failed miserably at holding in a snicker when Astrid hit the doors, face first.

After some heavy breathing, Astrid turned to Hiccup, and let it all out. "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?! JUST COME IN HERE AND MAKE ME LOOK IDIOTIC?"

Hiccup threw his hands back in defense and smirked. "You mean you don't recognize me?"
