(Rewrite of my second one-shot)

Hiccup took a deep breath and looked at the small golden ring in his palm. Today was the day. He had put this off for two long, and besides, he had to do one last thing to honor his father.

"Nervous, son?"

Hiccup turned around and saw his mom, smiling brightly. He sighed and wiped the ring off with a handkerchief for about the thousandth time. "Yes, I'm nervous. I'm not sure if we're really ready to take this step. I mean, there's still tons of clean up to do after the whole Drago disaster and Ruffnut can't help out be-"

Valka walked over to her son and hugged him tightly. "Calm down, Hiccup. It'll all be fine. Just trust me." Hiccup smiled and hugged back.

"Thanks, mom." Hiccup muttered. "Don't know what I'd do without you."

Valka smiled and pat Hiccup on the head. "Same. Now, don't you have something to tell Astrid?"

"Yea-HIC. Oh Thor. HIC." Hiccup muttered.

Valka pat Hiccup on the back. "Do't worry, son. It's just a classic case of the hiccups. You'll get over it in a few minutes."

Hiccup shook his head. "No-HIC, you don't under-HIC-stand, Mom.  When-HIC-ever I get the HICcups, they HIC don't go a-HIC-way for a few HIC days. I'm doo-HIC-med."

Valka laughed. "Looks like you're living up to your name. Your father didn't want to name you the runt of the litter, but the rest of the village insisted on it. So when you kept on getting the hiccups, we decided not to name you that because you were the runt of the litter."

Hiccup nodded. "HIC" Valka pat him on the back again and turned to leave the forge.

"Good luck, son. Everybody's counting on you to do it today. Bye!"

"HIC Bye, Mom. HIC" he muttered, sitting down on a stool.

A few minutes later, Astrid came into the forge and rolled her eyes at the scene of Hiccup moping. Knowing she would have to do something about it, she pulled up another stool behind him and sat down. Taking a few strands of hair in her hands, she began to put another braid in it. A smile crept across her face when Hiccup's whole body jumped.

"Did I really scare you that bad?" she asked, scooting the stool next to him.

Hiccup shook his head. "No HIC, I just HIC have the HICcups." When he saw the look on Astrid's face, he shook his head again and muttered: "Oh, Thor. HIC"

Astrid slapped him on the back and started laughing. "Looks like you're really living up to you name, eh, Hic?" she said through fits of laughter.

Hiccup grumbled. "How many HIC people are go-HIC-nna slap me on HIC the back to-HIC-day?"

This only made Astrid laugh even harder. "Good thing it's your day off, right? Hope you didn't have anything big planned." Astrid joked.

"You have no idea." Hiccup muttered.

"What was that?" Astrid asked, jokingly cupping her ear. "Did you just say you had something planned for today? Well, gee, Hic, you surely can't do anything with those nasty hiccups of yours. Why don't you let me take over for the day?"

Hiccup laughed and shook his head. "No, no, HIC, m'lady, but what HIC I have HIC planned can only be done by someone like HIC-exactly."

"Aw, then I guess whatever you have is going to have to be put off until your next day off. Too bad that I can't do it for you, really. Because I bet it was reeeeaaaallly important." Astrid taunted.

Hiccup grumbled. Well, I guess it's now or never. He thought. Hiccup reached behind him pulled out the small golden ring and put it in a silent Astrid's hand. "Alright. You HIC have to pro-HIC-pose to yourself. HIC"

After a few seconds of silence, Astrid got up out of her stool and down on one knee. She held the ring out to herself.

"She's HIC actually going HIC thr-HIC-ough with HIC this." Hiccup muttered.

Astrid took a deep breath. "Astrid Hofferson, will you make Hiccup Haddock the happiest man in the world and do him the honor of marrying him?" Astrid got up so she faced where she was a few seconds ago, holding the ring out in front of her. Putting a surprised look on her face, Astrid put her hand on her chest and gasped. "Hiccup, I-This, this was totally unexpected and completely out of the blue!" Astrid said, nailing her perfusion well that Hiccup actually believed that Astrid might say no. "But, yes!" She sat the ring on the table and wrapped her arms around Hiccup. Burying her head into his neck, she smiled. "Did you really think I would actually say no?" She shook her head when she felt Hiccup nod. "You know I love you, ya big dope."
