Astrid yawned as she grabbed her glasses. As much as she hated to wear them, she normally needed them in the mornings so she could see what she was doing before she put her contacts in. There was a knock on the door. Astrid got up and answered it, but went to slam it when she saw who it was.
For that person was Hiccup Haddock. Her partner for the school's group art project, and the school outcast. Why would Astrid slam the door in his face? Well, he had just discovered her greatest secret. And had seen her in her bra.
"Wha-HEY!" there was a pounding on the door. "Astrid! We need to talk about our project!"
"NO! You've seen too much! And plus, I HATE YOU!" Astrid yelled.
She heard a sigh come from the other side. "Listen, I'll come back later. Sorry for coming by so early."
Astrid shook her head. "Sorry, I know it's probably urgent, and boys are only allowed one pass to the girls' dorms once a day. You can come in, just cover your eyes, okay?"
The door slowly creaked open and a tall, lanky, auburn-haired, green-eyed, freckled boy walked in with covered eyes.
Astrid rolled her eyes and went to get dressed. She only put on a blue t-shirt and jeans, and decided to keep her glasses on since she never really took them off on weekends.
"You can open your eyes, now."
Hiccup slowly uncovered his eyes and sighed with relif. "So, you wear glasses?"
Astrid sighed and nodded. "Yeah, I wear contacts because I don't want people to think I'm weak." she said firmly. "So, what do we need too talk about?"
Hiccup shook his head and snapped back to reality. "Oh, right. Well, we just need to pick out the paints for our sculpture, and I thought that since today was a Saturday, maybe we could go shopping for paints, but if you don't want to, that's fine."
Astrid shook her head. "No, we're already behind, come on, let's go." she said, putting her shoes on.
"But don't you-Okay." he shrugged, watching Astrid leave the dorm, glasses still on.
As they walked through the school courtyard together, everybody stared and whispered. Astrid, being popular, was used to this, Hiccup however, was not, but he was aware of why they were whispering.
"Um, Astrid?" he whispered.
"Relax, they're just surprised to see us together." Astrid whispered back. "Just act natural."
"I think it's something else." he said stiffly, touching Astrid's glasses.
Astrid stopped in her tracks and went silent. The other populars giggled. She tugged on Hiccup's red t-shirt and pointed to the boys' dorms. Hiccup nodded and pushed her to his room.
Once finally in the building, Astrid was mortified to see more people in the common area.
Hiccup grabbed her wrist and darted up to his dorm. Once inside, he turned around and saw Astrid sitting in a corner with her head in her hands.
"Is it really that bad?" he asked, walking over to sit down next to her.
Astrid nodded. "I used to wear these all the time in elementary school. But when I reached the fifth grade, I vowed to be the tough kid. But apparently, you can't have glasses of you want to be the tough kid, even if you've punched like, five kids."
Hiccup thought for a moment before smiling and disappearing into his bathroom. A small while later, he appeared wearing his own pair of square, thick-rimmed glasses. Astrid's face lit up at the sight.
"You wear glasses too?" she asked, sniffing and wiping her face.
"Yeah, I just don't wear them a lot because of dragon racing." he said with a shrug.
Astrid smiled and hugged Hiccup. "Thanks for the pick-me-up. You're a great friend. "
Hiccup hugged her back. "Aw, you're a great crush."
"Wait. WHAT?!"
