Y/N wandered through the serene halls of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, soaking in the quiet. It was one of those rare evenings where everything seemed to align perfectly: the students were either studying or playing outside, and the usual hustle and bustle of the mansion had settled into a peaceful calm. The sound of soft classical music drifted through the corridors, guiding Y/N to a familiar place—Charles Xavier's study.
As Y/N approached, they saw that the door was slightly ajar. Inside, Charles sat at his desk, engrossed in an old, leather-bound book. His expression was calm, almost serene, with a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth. He looked so at ease, and Y/N felt their heart swell at the sight of him like this—free from the weight of the world, if only for a moment.
Not wanting to disturb the peace, Y/N hesitated at the doorway, leaning against the frame as they watched him. But Charles seemed to sense their presence. Without looking up from his book, he spoke in that gentle, familiar voice that always made Y/N feel at home.
"Y/N, you know you're always welcome here," Charles said, his voice like a soft melody in the quiet room.
Y/N's heart fluttered at the sound of his voice. They pushed the door open and stepped inside, unable to keep the smile off their face. "I didn't want to disturb you. You looked so peaceful."
Charles set the book down, his smile widening as he looked up at Y/N. "The only disturbance I'd welcome is you. Please, come in. Sit with me?"
Y/N crossed the room, their steps light, and took a seat in the plush chair opposite Charles. His study always felt like a sanctuary, filled with the scent of old books and a warmth that seemed to come from him. Being here with Charles made everything else fade away.
"How was your day?" Charles asked, his blue eyes full of genuine interest. He reached out, his hand resting on the table between them, palm up in silent invitation. Y/N took his hand, feeling the warmth of his touch spread through them like a gentle wave. "It was good," Y/N said softly. "Busy, but good. The students are learning fast. And Logan had his usual run-in with a stray fireball. He's not happy about his jacket."
Charles chuckled, the sound like music to Y/N's ears. "Poor Logan. I'm sure he'll recover—he always does. And how are you feeling? You've been so busy lately, Y/N. I worry about you."
Y/N looked into his eyes, feeling the concern and affection there. "I'm okay, Charles. Really. Being here, with you, makes everything better. It's like... I can breathe again."
Charles's hand tightened around Y/N's, his thumb brushing lightly over their knuckles. "You have no idea how much that means to me, hearing you say that. You're my light, Y/N. You bring me peace in ways no one else ever could."
Y/N's heart skipped a beat. They could feel the sincerity in his words, the depth of his feelings. "Charles... I—" Y/N's voice caught in their throat. They took a deep breath, trying to steady themselves. "You mean everything to me. You've always been there, always believed in me, even when I couldn't believe in myself."
Charles's eyes softened, a tender smile spreading across his face. He stood up, still holding Y/N's hand, and moved to kneel beside their chair, bringing them face to face. The intimacy of the moment made Y/N's heart race. "You are incredible, Y/N," Charles said softly, his free hand coming up to gently cup Y/N's cheek. "I've seen you grow, seen you face challenges that would break most people, and yet you've only grown stronger, kinder. You've brought so much light into my life. I can't imagine it without you."
Y/N felt tears prick at the corners of their eyes, overwhelmed by the love and warmth radiating from Charles. They leaned into his touch, their forehead resting against his. "I love you, Charles," Y/N whispered, their voice trembling. "More than I've ever loved anyone."
Charles's breath hitched, his eyes shining as he gazed at Y/N. "I love you, too. With all my heart," he said, his voice full of emotion. He leaned in, his lips brushing against Y/N's in a tender, lingering kiss.
The kiss was soft, sweet, filled with all the unspoken words and emotions that had been building between them. It felt like coming home, like everything had finally fallen into place. Y/N's hands moved to Charles's shoulders, holding him close as the world around them melted away. When they finally pulled apart, both of them breathless, Charles rested his forehead against Y/N's, his eyes closed. "Stay with me," he whispered. "For as long as you can. I want to spend every moment with you."
Y/N smiled, their heart full to bursting. "Always, Charles. I'm not going anywhere."
As they sat together, hands intertwined and hearts beating in perfect harmony, Y/N knew that no matter what the future held, they would face it together. And in that moment, everything felt exactly as it should be.
