_________ // Mon-El \\
I was asleep.
That's what it felt like, at least. I was staring up at the ceiling of Kara's apartment, laying on her couch. There was a pillow under my head. My mind was stuck in one place. I couldn't focus on anything except the ceiling. One sentence echoed my mind: she was dead, she was dead, she was dead.
People say that death hurts them. I was never sure what they had meant by that. Did it heart their hearts? Their heads? Or was it metaphorical?
I felt no pain.
I mean-- yes, I was grieving. I had never missed anyone more than I missed Kara. But there was no sharp pain in my chest when I thought of her laugh; there was no ache in my head every time I inhaled her scent through her pillow. All I felt was an empty hole in my heart where Kara used to be.
So here I was, staring at her ceiling. I hadn't spoken to anyone --really-- in days. I didn't feel like it. No one had tried to talk to me, either. I'd kept my phone near, just in case there was a call about Cadmus or news on Kara. I still had hope that they'd tell me they'd made a mistake.
She didn't really flatline, the machine malfunctioned. Or I had dreamed the whole thing, and I'd wake up in her bed right next to her.
But I knew the chances of that happening were slim.
Regardless, when my phone went off, I jumped up. It was the first movement I had made all day. Winn's face popped up on the small screen.
"Hello?" I mumbled.
"You need to come down to the DEO," Winn demanded. "It's urgent."
"You sounds awful chipper," I sighed. "What's got you all happy?"
"I was doing routine testing this morning, and a signal came up," He explained. "It was a message from Cadmus-- Jacob more specifically."
"And?" I questioned. "What does that little bastard want?"
"He said that the aliens prisoners and him had taken over Cadmus," Winn continued.
"Get to the point, Winn," I groaned.
"Sorry, sorry," He sighed. "Jacob said that he had Supergirl."
I think I almost dropped the phone. I jumped off the couch, standing up. My eyes were wide, my jaw dropped. He had Supergirl?
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"I'm not sure," Winn said. "But Alex is on her way."
