"What do you mean?" I asked, showing him to the couch. Jacob's face was red with dried tears. "She's been taken again? We just escaped last week!"
"I woke up, and she wasn't next to me," He began to ramble. "I should've started looking harder, she never leaves without telling me--"
"Slow down," Mon-El sighed. "Take a seat."
The man sat down, rubbing his hands through his brown hair. Mon-El turned to me, his eyebrows raised.
"Now, tell us what happened," I demand, sitting next to him. "Very slowly."
Jacob let out a very shaky breath.
"Well, it all started this morning," He said. "I woke up, and she wasn't there."

Earlier
Jacob slowly opened his eyes, a soft smile on his lips. The sun was streaming through the window of his bedroom, softly shining upon his bedsheets. He rubbed his hand across the other side of the bed, his forehead creasing. T'ayy wasn't there.
She'd been there the night before.
Jacob bit his lip, examining the room. T'ayy never woke up before eight in the morning-- she always was late up at night, stressing over nightmares she'd have about her planet. They hadn't been as bad once she started sleeping over at Jacob's.
But Jacob simply assumed that she'd been awoken by something, and shrugged off the idea that anything unusual happened. He climbed out of his bed, pulling a sweater over his head. Jacob exited his bedroom, walking out into the hallway of his apartment. He entered the kitchen, which was empty.
"T'ayy?" He called. "Are you here?"
No response.

"Wait, wait, wait," I put my hand up, stopping Jacob from talking. "Why was she at your apartment?"
"We're together," Jacob muttered. "Dating, I suppose."
"Oh my gosh," Mon-El's face grew sadder at the news. The dummy had a soft spot for romance.
