___________ // Kara Danvers \\
My head whipped around at the sound of my phone buzzing from the inside of my purse. I got up to get it, but Mon-El pointed back at my chair. He went to it and dug it out of the messy bag.
"It's Winn," Mon-El announced, pushing the green answer button. "Hyello?"
I activated my super hearing, eavesdropping on the conversation. I felt a flutter in my chest, caused by Mon-El's quirky opening statement over the telephone.
"Hey," Winn sighs over the phone. "I have some news."
"What is it?" Mon-El asked, his forehead creasing.
"We have a hit on T'ayy's location," He announces. My eyes widen.
"What can we do?" Mon-El questions.
"We need to go to the DEO," I exclaimed. "Now."
"We're setting up a strike team--"
"Kara and I are coming," Mon-El says.
"Okay," Winn said. "How is Kara? I feel like I haven't seen either of you in forever."
"Yeah, she misses you," Mon-El smiled. "We both do. We need to do a game night sometime soon."
"I've been saving you a game of Settlers of Catan," Winn gloats. "Yet another fandom I need to get you into."
"He's obsessed enough with Harry Potter," I shout.
"Anyway, we'll be there as fast as we can," Mon-El stated. "See ya later."
He put the phone back in my purse, and turned to me. I sighed, and looked up at Mon-El. I took his hand and he hoisted me up on to my feet.
"Let's go find T'ayy," I smiled sadly.
___________
Mon-El and I walked into the DEO, our hands intertwined. Alex smiled, walking up to me.
"Hey, sis," She said. "Are you here about T'ayy?"
"Yeah," I reply. "Winn said there was a lead?"
"An abandoned farm outside the city's electricity has been turned on," Alex explains. "It hasn't been used for nearly four decades, and the owner is a man who went missing around a year ago, when Cadmus first formed."
"And that's where they're holding her?" I asked. Alex nods. "The strike team is ready whenever you are."
I nod, breathing out.
"You coming?" I questioned. She nods.
"My sister has a mild concussion and her boyfriend, who's accompanying her, was just attacked by an alien creature in his brain," She scoffs. "I'm going."
I laughed lightly, a small part of my brain still focused on my getting fired. It felt like a real smile on my face, though, happiness radiating through my conversation with Alex.
My smile faded as I remembered the previous events of the day.
"What's wrong?" Alex asked.
"I got fired," I mumbled. "Snapper didn't know why I was gone, so he fired me."
"Ohmigosh," Alex sighs. "Kara, I'm so sorry. I know how much that job meant to you."
"I'm okay," I mutter. "Mon-El helped me with the initial shock of it. I just need to relax."
"Kara, it happened an hour ago," Mon-El said. "You don't need to get over it that fast."
"I can focus on my extremely sad life once we save T'ayy," I argue.
"Speaking of that," Winn was walking up the stairs towards us, tablet in hand. "We're ready to go."
"Where's Jacob?" I asked.
"J'onn is having him stay here," Winn explained. "He doesn't want his emotions clouding his judgements."
"Jacob agreed to that?" Mon-El questioned.
"Well, uh-- no, but J'onn calmed him down a little," Winn chuckled nervously.
