I was sitting on the counter, in my kitchen. Mon-El was standing above the stove. He had  a wooden spoon in one hand. There was a pan of sizzling beef in front of him, cooking above the heat. I watched as he carefully mixed it around.

The sunlight was streaming through the windows. Birds chirped from their branches, a lovely toon catching in the soft wind. The faint sound of cars could be heard, but it was a peaceful song. I loved the sound of the city.

It was the perfect day.

"What time is everyone coming?" He asked. I smiled.

"They should be getting here any second now," I informed him.

Alex, Maggie, J'onn, Winn, Jacob, and T'ayy were coming over for lunch. Mon-El wanted to make pasta-- he'd just discovered a new recipe on the internet-- and was currently browning the meat. I was watching him very carefully.

My eyes wandered towards the windows. "It's so beautiful outside."

He nodded in agreement. Mon-El turned the stove off, and lifted the pan. He poured its' contents into a bowl.

"We should go for a walk later," He suggested. "It's rare that we see a sunny day in National City."

I laughed, my shoulders shaking. I leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. I pressed my hands down. I hoisted myself off the counter, and walked to the other side of him. Mon-El turned to face me.

"You're adorable," he whispered.

"So are you," I responded.

Mon-El brought me into a kiss. I smiled into his lips. They tasted like mint and chocolate. I loved their texture-- soft and sweet. I pulled away from him when I heard a knock at the door.

I scrambled across the floor, and flung the door open. Alex and Maggie were waiting on the other sides. Their faces lit up when I was in their line of vision.

"Hi!" Maggie exclaimed.

"Hey!" I laughed. I wrapped my arms around her, and squeezed gently. "Lunch should be ready soon."

She nodded, and stepped away. I grabbed Alex's hand. She smiled at me, following me into the kitchen.

"What are you making?" Alex scoffed.

"Beef stroganoff," Mon-El smiled. "I found it on the internet, and it looked good."

He was stirring  a pot of cooked noodles. Mon-El picked up the meet, and poured it in. I found myself smiling brightly as he continued to make food. I loved the fact that he enjoyed cooking.

"How much longer?" Alex asked. "I'm starving."

"Soon," Maggie answered. "Be patient."

"I can't be patient when I'm starving," She frowned. Mon-El and I laughed at their bickering. Suddenly, there was another knock on the door. I sighed, not having enough energy to run back towards it.

"Come in!" I yelled instead, allowing the guests to enter themselves. The door opened, revealing Winn and J'onn.

"Hey, guys!" Mon-El smiled. He was excited to see Winn.

The two of them mumbled their hellos, and made their way to the kitchen. Alex sat down on a bar stool, while Maggie stood behind her. Winn stood next to the counter. J'onn sat on the stool next to Alex.

"Whatcha making?" Winn asked.

"Beef Stroganoff," Alex answered. "It smells so good. Give me the food, Mon-El."

"It's not done yet," Mon-El repeated, chuckling. "Give me a second."

He poured the last of the sauce into the pot. He then turned around, and lifted it into the air," Lunch is served!"

Alex cheered, and clapped. Everyone else laughed. They all grabbed plates and began to serve themselves. I watched with Mon-El.

"How is it?" He asked. Alex put a bite in her mouth.

"Excellent," She gasped.

Everyone chuckled again. It became more quiet as everyone dug into their food. I could see a small smile on Mon-El's lips. He was enjoying watching their pleased expressions as they ate his pasta.

There was a third knock on the door. I smiled, and ran over to the entry way. I pulled it open.

"T'ayy!" I exclaimed. "Jacob!"

The two brunettes smiled. Jacob's arm was wrapped around T'ayy's waist.

"Hi!" T'ayy said. "Thank you for inviting us."

"It's no problem," I scoffed. "Come on in! Mon-El just finished making lunch!"

Jacob nodded, and lead her inside. They made their way towards the table, greeting everyone.

"You guys remember T'ayy?" I questioned. "Jacob's girlfriend?"

"Of course," J'onn smiled. "You're the young woman who helped us deal with Cadmus!"

T'ayy smiled brightly. Her brown hair shined in the light from the windows. "I did. Thank you for helping me, by the way."

"Oh, and Kara, congrats on getting your job at CatCo back," Jacob exclaimed.

"Thank you," I grinned. "Now, you guys dig into the food."

The couple did as I told them to do, and grabbed a plate. Mon-El put his hand on my arm. He pulled me closer to him.

Everyone continued eating. Jokes were made, laughs were shared. I couldn't help but watch with a giant smile on my face. These were the people that made up my family, and made me who I was.

I looked up at Mon-El. He was laughing along with them. He made me happier than anyone else ever did. He was a star in the dark night, and I loved him with all of my heart. He was my forever--he was my happily ever after.

Everyone in this room told my story the exact same way.  A brave girl became a super hero. She got rid of evil, made the world a better place, and did it all with a smile on her face. Then a boy showed up, and helped her keep the world spinning. They fell in love.

But then the girl was kidnapped, and chaos ensued. Their love, though, was enough to save her.

My story was not a confusing one. My love for Mon-El did not give me weakness. My life would not literally end if he died or left-- but my world would stop spinning. I was simply a girl who had fallen in love with an amazing person. One thing became clear to me when I fell in love--

--forever is a long time, but it goes by so fast when you're surrounded by the ones you love.
