The next day was Monday and word had spread about the Valentines Day Party being held in the Room of Requirement. The twins went around whispering the times in people's ears as they passed in corridors.

"5 till before curfew. Get dinner early."

"Well that's a stupid time." Sneered Zacharias Smith, a Hufflepuff who shared not one Hufflepuff quality.

"Can't be nearly as stupid as you." Retorted Ron, who happened to be walking along the corridor at the same time.

Smith stuck his nose in the air and stalked off.

Lavender was shrieking with laughter.

Hermione cringed because unfortunately, her and Harry were stuck walking behind them to get to their next class. Potions. Hermione stopped. Mainly because she wanted to put as much distance between her and "Lav" and "Won Won" as possible, but also because she was slightly interested.

"What happened to those gloves and hats?" She asked the twins when she got closer to them.

They turned to face her, beaming. "Special invite only." Said Fred.

"Why, are you planning to come?" Asked George cheekily.

Hermione pouted. "No, I was just interested to know what was going on. I think it is very clever, not holding the party after curfew." She added.

The twins beamed (even more). "Yes well, we don't want to get everyone in trouble and we do respect some school rules." Said George.

Hermione opened her mouth to reply but her words were drowned out by Professor McGonagall. "Weasley!" She shouted over the crowd.

"Oops." Said Fred. "We forgot our homework again." He sighed before walking towards a very stern-looking McGonagall.

Hermione shook her had at the twins before making her way down the marble steps into the Entrance Hall.

She found her path blocked by Cormac McLaggen. "Granger!" He exclaimed. Ugh. Hermione tried to push past him but he moved in front of her again. "So, who's taking you to the party?" He asked. Hermione couldn't believe it! The twins invited him.

"I'm not going." She said, trying, and failing, once more to get past him.

He carried on like she hadn't spoken. "A pretty girl like you shouldn't go alone." Ew ew ew.

"Move!" She cried, trying once more to get past him.

"Wait!" He said, sticking his arm out to stop her.

A voice from behind Hermione cried "Petrificus Totalus!" and his face froze as his limbs snapped together. He fell backwards, and slid down the stairs like a piece of wood. Before Hermione could turn around, Ginny came flying down the stairs. "Hey Hermione!"

"Ginny! Thank you!" She said, looking distastefully at the figure of Cormac at the bottom of the stairs.

Ginny just nodded. "Harry asked me to the party!" She burst out, as though she had been waiting to say it all day.

Hermione blinked. Then she broke into a huge grin.

"He asked you just after you left."

"Good. About time." She said. Ginny just beamed at her.

"I better get going, I don't want to be late for McGonagall and I have a feeling she is in a bad mood, I saw her just now actually."

"Your twin brothers forgot their homework."

Ginny just smiled. "Typical Fred and George. Anyway, catch you later!" She said with a wave. "See you at the party!" She called over her shoulder.

Hermione shook her head. Everyone was so determined to make her go to the party! Why spoil the fun and tell them that she was actually going?

The Gryffindors and Slytherins were lined up outside Snape's classroom, waiting for the Professor. Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle were stood, as always, at the front of the line, laughing at a joke Malfoy had just told. When Hermione walked down the corridor, they turned towards her.

"Oi, Granger!" Yelled Pansy Parkinson.

Hermione kept her head held high and carried on walking towards Harry. Harry smiled at her but she only returned it half-heartedly. At that point, Ron came over and Hermione suddenly became very interested in the ugly suit of armour of the other side of the corridor.

"What's wrong Granger?" Shouted Malfoy.

"Yeah, fallen out with your boyfriend?" Sneered Parkinson.

"Oh. Wait. He's not your boyfriend!" Yelled Malfoy.

Ron's ears went red- a warning sign as Hermione whipped around to face the laughing Slytherins. Malfoy flinched away and crashed into Pansy Parkinson who was knocked to the floor.

"Malfoy! You knocked your girlfriend over. Oh, wait." Spat Ron.

Malfoy whipped out his wand as Pansy watched, from the floor. Obviously she was waiting for someone to help her up. He flicked his wand, pointing it randomly and a bolt of light flew from the wand tip. Ron ducked and the spell hit Harry, who was attempting to restrain Ron. There was sound like someone's nose breaking and then blood started to pour down his face. "Ahh!"

Hermione turned to Harry, her face red with anger but with a worried expression on her face. "Episkey." She said, tapping the bridge of his nose with her wand. There was another crunch and his nose was back to its normal shape.

"Thanks." He mumbled, bringing a hand up to feel his newly-fixed nose but before Hermione could clean the blood off his face, Professor Snape came out of his classroom.

"Come in-" he started to say before he stopped and looked around at the class. The Slytherins were looking innocent at the front of the line, Pansy on the floor, Malfoy with his wand hidden behind his back, Ron with his fists clenched, Hermione with her wand out, Harry with blood down his face and the Gryffindors scowling at the Slytherins. He looked down his overly-long nose at Pansy.

"Miss Parkinson, why are you on the floor?" Snape asked.

Pansy raised a falsely shaky finger at Hermione. "G- Granger pushed me, P-Professor." She said.

"Is that so?" Snape asked, turning towards Hermione. He saw her wand that was still in her hand and smirked. "Detention Granger. No magic in the corridors and 10 points from Gryffindor for attacking a student." He then turned to Blaise Zabini. "Zabini, help Miss Parkinson off the floor." Snape then turned to Harry. "Potter." He said, his mouth curling into a sneer. "I see you have your usual disregard for the rules." He then looked at Ron who still had his fists clenched. "Detention, both of you. 20 points from Gryffindor."

"He didn't do anything!" Yelled Ron. Snape raised an eyebrow. "Do you want to make that 50 points from Gryffindor?"

"No." Said Ron stiffly.

"No what."

"No Sir." Said Ron.

Snape at last seemed satisfied. "Get out your parchment and quill please." Snape said, leading the way into the classroom. He turned back around. "Oh, and someone take Potter to the Hospital Wing."
