Chapter 28

Wednesday- 3 days until Valentine's Day

Hermione went down to breakfast early, wanting to avoid Harry and Ron at all costs. The promise she made to herself last night still stood and the only way was to distance herself from Ron. Even if that meant avoiding Harry for a while. Then again, she thought, he has Ginny anyway.

Lee woke up smiling. He replayed last night in his mind.

Flashback:
The twins and Lee were surrounded by colourful paper and ribbon in the room of requirement. Lee had a mound of parchment in front of him and he was thinking up new ways to write out little cards to go with the small gifts that Fred and George had wrapped up.

"Nothing." He said, throwing down his quill which caused ink to splatter across the words he tried so hard to write down. "I have no ideas."

"Don't worry about it Lee." Said George, looking up at his best friend before going back to unsticking the muggle sellotape from his fingers.

"Yeah. We have plenty of notes already." Said Fred, pointing towards the carefully written out notes by Lee, all with different handwriting and ink.

"Tell me why we decided to use this stuff again." Said George, as he gave up on battling with the sellotape.

"Because it makes it seem more realistic." Explained Lee. "Not everyone is going to be using magic to put together the gifts."

"What would we do without you?" Said Fred, pretending to wipe a tear from underneath his eye.

"Shut up." Grumbled Lee, yawning.

"Why don't you go to bed?" Suggested Fred.

"Yeah, we're almost done here anyway." Said George.

"Okay." Replied Lee, getting up and walking towards the door.

He walked through the corridors, making his way back to Gryffindor tower. Just as he got to the portrait hole, it opened and someone came flying out.

"Woah, steady on there." He chuckled. "What's the rush?"

The person looked up and Lee recognised her as Pavarti, Lavender's best friend.

"Well if you were stuck in there with Lavender and a very grumpy 'won won', you would want to leave as well." Replied Pavarti.

Lee chuckled. "Didn't fancy joining the happy couple then?" He asked, grinning at her.

"No thanks, I'd rather spend my afternoon locked in the bathroom with Moaning Myrtle." She said. "Anyway, how come you're not in the common room. And where's Fred and George?" She asked.

"We were just making some final arrangements for the party." He replied. "They will be back soon." He said. And before he could stop himself he blurted "Have you got a valentine?"

They both blushed. Lee scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "I mean- are you going to the party?"

Pavarti grinned. "If you want to ask me out, just say it." She said.

"Okay then." Piped Lee. "See you at the party." He said before rushing past her and into the common room.

Before the portrait swung closed, he heard her laughing. "I'll look forward to it!"

Lee could hear the twins waking up in the beds across the room and he opened up the curtains that surrounded his four-poster to see Fred and George looking back at him.

"What's the plan?" He whispered over at them. There wasn't any risk of anyone overhearing them as their dorm mates had already left, but he whispered anyway.

"Me and George will get it ready, you will cover for us like we discussed." Said Fred.

"Okay. Good luck." Said Lee.

Hermione piled eggs onto her toast as the great hall started to fill up with more people.

Neville came in and sat next to Hermione. They exchanged greetings before Ginny joined them as well.

"Hello Hermione!"

"Hello Ginny." Replied Hermione, smiling at her friend.

"When's the post going to come?" Complained Ginny. "I want to read The Daily Prophet before I have to go to History of Magic."

Hermione checked her watch. "It normally comes within the next 5 minutes."

Lee came into the great hall and sat opposite Neville.

"Morning." He greeted.

"Where's Fred and George?" Asked Ginny.

"They had only just got up when I left and you know how slow they are getting ready." Said Lee, grinning.

Ginny rolled her eyes at the thought of her two lazy older brothers.

Hermione didn't even look up when Harry and Ron entered the hall, Lavender and Pavarti close behind.

They had only just all sat down when owls started to fly into the great hall, dropping off parcels to their owners.

Hermione jumped when a large package fell in front of her. She took a peek at the letter attached to it and quickly stuffed the package under the table, not wanting anyone else to see it.

She went to carry on eating her breakfast like nothing happened when another, smaller box bounced off her hand. "Ow!" She said, rubbing her hand. Hermione then realised that the box was another Valentine's Day gift and hoped that no one saw it. Unfortunately, her cry attracted the attention of Ginny.

"You have another Valentine's gift Hermione?" She exclaimed.

Fred and George then appeared, squeezing themselves on either side of Lee and helping themselves to toast.

"You're popular." Said Fred and George in unison.
