Part 4
"Won won, try not to get another detention." Lavender told Ron, as the Gryffindors and Slytherins lined up outside the potions classroom.
"I won't." Replied Ron, looking over at Hermione.
Hermione saw him looking at her so she turned around to talk to a cute Gryffindor guy. Ron didn't miss the flirtatious look in the Gryffindor guy's eye and he put his arms around Lavender, making Hermione scowl. Harry sighed, earning sympathetic look from Pavarti, who misinterpreted his exasperation.
Neville watched in awe, he still hadn't plucked up the courage to ask anyone to the ball and time was running out.
"Hey Potter!" Shouted Malfoy.
Harry sighed. "What?" He asked, turning around to face the blonde Slytherin.
"How's Weasel's sister? I heard you two are official now." Shrieked Pansy Parkinson, cutting across Malfoy as he opened his mouth to speak, causing him to scowl.
Ron pulled away from Lavender's grasp and glared at Harry. "What?" He asked, his voice scarily calm.
"Oops." Said Pansy innocently, getting the exact reaction she had hoped for.
Harry wouldn't meet Ron's gaze. "So- it's true then?" He asked. "You're dating my sister and you never told me!" He shouted. Harry looked into his eyes and opened his mouth to speak but Hermione stopped him.
"Yes they are dating now." She said simply. "Does it matter?" She asked.
"He's supposed to be my best friend!" He cried.
"And you're supposed to be ours!" She shouted back, tears welling up in her eyes. The Slytherins watched, amused while Harry watched on awkwardly.
"What's all this shouting about?" Asked Snape, who had just appeared silently in the doorway to his classroom.
"Fighting again Weasley?" He asked, seeing Ron's red ears and clenched fists. Ron didn't meet his gaze.
"May I remind you that you still have a detention with your- friends." The Slytherins didn't bother to disguise their laughter.
"My office, all three of you, tonight after dinner." He said finally.
Ron looked like he wanted to protest but kept quiet. Hermione kept her head held high and Harry nervously glanced at both of them before replying, "Yes Professor."
Once the bell had gone, the class filed out, Pansy Parkinson pushing towards the front as usual. Lavender and Ron went ahed, Hermione glaring after them. Some of the Gryffindors that passed them congratulated Harry on getting a girlfriend.
Once they had finally gotten into the Great Hall, Harry went straight over to Ginny and filled her in on the events of the morning with some help from Hermione, of course.
"How- what- it's none of his business who I date!" She exclaimed, once Harry had finished telling her about the incident with Ron. She started to get up.
"No, Ginny wait!" Hermione called out, knowing that her friend was about to go and confront her brother. She turned around and waited for Hermione to speak. "We have a detention with him this evening and if you say anything it will just make it worse!" Ginny hesitated. "Ginny please, it's fine." She nodded and sat back down as Hermione breathed a sigh of relief.
"But if he says anything else-" she warned.
"He won't." Replied Hermione.
"Who won't what?" Asked a voice from behind them. Fred and George came and sat on either side of Hermione.
"It's noth-" started Hermione.
"Ron. That's what!" Raged Ginny.
"What's he done now?" Asked George, shooting a nervous glance at Hermione.
"He thinks he can control who I date!"
George relaxed and turned to face his sister. "You've got a boyfriend?"
"Why didn't we know about this?"
"Who is he?"
"Do we need to give him the talk?"
All through the questions, Harry became increasingly agitated. Ginny grabbed his hand and squeezed it. Instantly the twins shut up and stared wide-eyed at their entwined hands.
Pause. Then: "Finally!" They burst out, earning stares from the perimeter of people around them.
"Congratulations mate!" Said Fred, reaching over to clap Harry on the back.
"Anyway, we best get going. Things to plan." George winked before the pair of them walked out of the Great Hall.
Hermione noticed people turning around to stare at Harry and Ginny, whispering to their friends. Ginny noticed too. "Wow gossip travels fast." She remarked. Her and Harry started to get up. "Coming Hermione?"
Hermione shook her head. "No, it's fine." She didn't want to be a tag along.
She watched as they left before slowly getting up and making her way out of the hall. Outside in the corridor, Lavender and Ron were snogging. Pavarti was nowhere to be seen. Hermione kept on walking.
Now that Ginny and Harry were dating, where did that leave her? There were couples everywhere and now she was left all by herself. Maybe Malfoy was right...
Sorry this was a late update, my first exam is next week and I was busy preparing. Hope this chapter was okay!
