They were lining up, ready to go to Hogsmeade. Lavender was trying to persuade Ron to go to Madam Puddifoots while Ginny was jumping up and down with excitement.

"Calm down!" Cried Hermione, for what felt like the 100th time.

"Sorry." She replied, once again, before jumping up and down even more.

Once they had finally got past Filch, Ginny practically dragged Hermione down the steps.

"Come on! We will be late!" Cried Ginny. Then she seemed to realise that she had let something slip and quickly turned away again, walking so fast that Hermione had to jog to keep up.

"Late for what?" Asked Hermione.

"You'll see!" Was the reply that she received.

They arrived in Hogsmeade, Hermione with a painful stitch in her side but still Ginny speed walked on.

They didn't stop until they where outside a weathered shop that looked as though it was once very pretty. It had lilac and gold peeling paint on the doorframe and a peeling pinkish red sign above the door whose words where no longer readable. Hermione was going to ask what they were doing outside an old shop and why they had to run all the way there but every breath she took came in a painful stab and she had to bend down to regain her breath.

"What- why- where?" She managed to choke out.

"Now who's a drama queen?" Asked Ginny, smirking at the girl stood in front of her and rolling her eyes. "Come on Hermione! It's just a stitch!" She said.

Hermione straightened up as Ginny pushed the peeling door and it swung forwards. Hermione was half expecting to a hear it creak but it didn't. Instead, a little bell tinkled over their heads alerting the shop owner of their presence.

Hermione's jaw dropped. They were in a room with clothing racks lining the shop: creating aisles. And each clothing rack had a different colour dress and a different style. The walls were painted lilac with gold swirling patterns and the carpet was reddish pink.

"Good morning!" An elegant woman, probably in her 30's, was walking towards them, smiling. She had a very friendly face. She then turned to Ginny. "Aha! You just be the young girl whom I received an owl from this morning?" She asked. Ginny nodded. The woman held out her hand and Ginny took it. "I'm Sophia." She said. Then she turned to Hermione. "And you must be the girl who Ginny wrote to me about? Hermione?" She asked, holding out her hand. Hermione took it and nodded, too shocked to speak. "I have the perfect thing for you!" She exclaimed then bustled away through the racks of dresses.

Hermione turned to Ginny, her arms crossed. Ginny smiled awkwardly.

"That's where you were this morning." Said Hermione. "Why?" She asked.

"Well you need a dress for the party!" Said Ginny.

"Ball." Corrected Hermione. "And for a ball, you need a partner."

"You know Fred and George, they will turn it into a party. They just say ball to make it sound nice."

Hermione was about to open her mouth to say that she wasn't going when Sophia returned, wearing an even bigger smile.

"I have three dresses ready for you in dressing room 1 Hermione." She said, pointing to the other side of the shop. "And for you, Ginny, in dressing room 2. Shout me if you need me." Sophia retreated to behind the counter while Ginny and Hermione navigated round the clothing racks. Well, Ginny dragged Hermione.

She felt herself being shoved into changing room 1 and when she tried to protest, she had the curtain shut in her face. "Your not coming out unless you have got a dress on!" Came Ginny's voice from the other side of the curtain.

Hermione scowled at the curtain as though that would get her out of the situation. She sighed and turned to have a look at what he was being faced with. The dressing room was quite large, with a huge mirror on the opposite side and another clothing rack on another. The other side had a comfortable-looking armchair. The clothing rack held 3 dresses: one blue, one red, and one purple. She reached out and grabbed the blue one. It was a sort of teal coloured blue. It was plain and it reached down to her knees. The top had lace going around her chest.

"Number 1. Ready?" Ginny called.

"Yes." She replied.

"3," Hermione grabbed hold of the lilac curtain. "2," deep breath. "1!" Ginny cried. Both curtains were ripped open and the two girls faced each other. Ginny was wearing a baby blue dress with lots of lace and with little sleeves. It was a dress, but Ginny looked extremely uncomfortable. Hermione actually really liked hers.

Ginny looked at her reflection in the mirror and cringed. "Yours is nice!" She said.

They went back into the changing rooms to try the second one on.

Hermione reached for the red one. It was strapless, low cut and was way too open for Hermione's liking. This time, she paused before opening her curtain.

"Damn." Was all Ginny managed to say.

She was wearing a baby pink dress that flowed down to her feet. It had a lace pattern of swirls and sequins.

They both shook their heads again and retreated back to the changing room.

This time there was only one left to try on: the purple one. This one had two thin straps that crossed over at the back and it reached down to her knees. It was nice, but the colour was just all wrong! Hermione walked out to see Ginny already standing there:

She was wearing a beautiful black dress, that reached her knees and in the same style as the teal one of Hermione's. Hermione was about to speak when someone interrupted. "Hermione? Ginny?" It was Harry.

Hermione gave a start then ran back into the changing room and put back on her normal clothes. She took one last look at the teal dress and remembered the number code on the label.

When she went back out again, Ginny was back in her normal clothes but extremely red in the face.

"So are you going to the party then?" Asked Harry.

Why does everyone keep calling it a party? Wondered Hermione.

"No." She replied.

Ginny's shoulders sunk. "But-"

"Don't worry about it, you can go with Harry." She said. Ginny went even redder.

She thanked a very confused looking Sophia and then exited the shop, making her way back to Hogwarts. Alone.

This is what Hermione's dress looks like: (Ginny's is the same but black).
