Sorry this took so long- I was busy with school work and the school production but here we are!
(A/N 2: 22/07/17) I was playing around with the "Share as Quote" feature and created this cover for the chapter ^
Ron ran down to the common room before Harry, perhaps in the hope of speaking to Hermione. But when Harry got to the bottom of the stairs, he heard "Good morning Won Won!" and the sound of the portrait hole closing.
Harry walked in to the common room to find Lavender hugging Ron so tightly that he couldn't move his arms. At that moment, Ginny came bounding down the stairs leading from the girls dormitories. She took one look at Ron and Lavender and mimed being sick behind their backs. Harry smiled.
Ginny mouthed "escape" to him and pointed towards the portrait hole.
Harry didn't need telling twice, he almost ran across the room as Ginny flung open the portrait hole and they both walked through.
Harry was momentarily stunned when Ginny's hair whipped his face. He breathed in the scent. It sent tingles all through his body.
"Phew, glad to be out of there." Said Ginny.
"Y- yeah." Stammered Harry, still slightly in a daze.
"Well anyway, I'm going to meet Dean." Said Ginny, slightly awkwardly.
These words were as harsh as being woken up with an icy bucket of water.
"Oh." Was all Harry could manage to reply.
"He said he wanted to meet me, talk about something." Said Ginny quickly. "He probably wants to get back together." She added cautiously.
Harry looked up at her, unaware that he was staring at the floor in the first place. "Are- I mean- will you-"
"No." She replied simply. "He was way too- pushy." She said the last word carefully. "I'm too independent for him." She added, flicking her hair.
He laughed.
"Plus I like someone else." She added casually.
Harry raised his eyebrows at her, in a questioning way.
"Who?" He asked, trying to be as casual as possible. His heart was thumping in his chest.
"Well-" she was interrupted because at that moment, Lavender and Ron came flying out of the portrait hole. "I should get going." Said Ginny quickly, clearly disgusted with Ron. "Bye Harry!" She called over her shoulder, as she bounced down the corridor.
Now Hermione wasn't the only one annoyed with Ron and Lavender.
Harry slumped into a seat next to Hermione and picked up a plate of eggs.
"What's wrong?" She asked from behind The Prophet.
Harry stayed silent.
"It was Ginny wasn't it?" She asked, finally putting down the newspaper.
Harry nodded, still too deep in thought about who Ginny had a crush on to ask how Hermione could tell.
"She won't get back with Dean again." She replied knowingly.
"How do-" he started to ask how Hermione knew so much but he was interrupted.
"Your my best friend Harry, and so is Ginny and I can tell that you like her and she likes you."
Harry just gave a nod.
"And I can tell you like Ron so can't you just talk to him?" Blurted out Harry.
Hermione scowled at him and Harry went back to his eggs.
"No! I will not! She cried defiantly. "Ugh, here they come." She added.
Harry looked up and saw Ron and Lavender walking into the Great Hall, Lavender clinging onto his arm. Hermione hastily got up and walked past them. Ron looked like he wanted to say something to her but Lavender was pulling him towards the bench.
Hermione walked through the castle, waiting for the bell to go when she spotted Ginny. "Hey- Ginny!" She called out, jogging towards her.
"Oh- hey Hermione." Said Ginny, who was leaning up against the wall.
"What's wrong?"
Ginny put her head in her hands before looking up at Hermione. "Dean wants to get back together." Hermione nodded, waiting for her to continue. "I was so close to telling Harry that I like him this morning. I can't do it Hermione." She shook her head in defeat.
"But Ginny, you just said it! You said you were close to telling him!" Hermione exclaimed.
"I know- but..."
The bell went overhead.
"See you later Hermione." Said Ginny and Hermione watched the redhead walk off. Until another redhead appeared. Closely followed by another one. Fred and George.
"Hello Hermione!" They said in unison.
"I need to get to lesson." She said.
"Nice to see you too." Said George.
"We need to get to Transfiguration so we will walk with you to Charms." Said Fred.
They started walking.
"So-" Started Fred.
"It is February soon..."
"Well done." Hermione snapped, realising where the conversation was leading to.
"We wanted to pursue McGonagall to hold a Valentine's Day ball." Said Fred.
Hermione snorted. "Good luck with that." She said.
"And you will have a Valentine." Carried on George.
"No I won't." She replied simply. "Bye." She said, as they had reached the Charms corridor.
Hermione was extremely distracted during Charms. She thought over what Fred and George had told her. Ron and Lavender would be giving gifts to each other.
Hermione sighed.
Fred and George:
"Part one of plan complete." Said Fred to Lee when they got to Transfiguration."Why can't you do it?" Huffed Lee.
"Because, she knows our handwriting when we asked for her to check our homework." Said George.
"Hey, George. What do you reckon McGonagall will say to a Valentine's Ball?"
"Absolutely not Weasley. Now kindly get on with you work." Said a voice from behind them that was Professor McGonagall.
"I joke- I joke!" Said Fred hastily as Lee laughed.
